Honestly, I've heard WAY worse. This isn't going to be helpful, really, but look for things to occupy your time, because there's nothing you can do about this for right now. When she gets back, it honestly is probably not going to be all that bad. You didn't really go all-in but did seemingly get your answer, and speed up the moving on process, so in a way, this is a blessing. "She'll probably never be comfortable around you again. She's likely already thinking about alternate living arrangements. That's the harsh reality. " This is the worst-case scenario, but if it comes to that, it comes to that and would have happened eventually whether you texted her or not, probably, if you were smitten with her and if that sort of thing was going to sink the roommate arrangement. Crushes don't stay secret indefinitely with that amount of being around one another. One of the reasons I never was a fan of having a female roommate. What if I had a crush on her and she don't. it would end badly Not interested in the Jack Tripper life?

I never understood why people would have roommates of the opposite sex. I'd totally fall for them as well.

And the way to show her that all men aren't jerks is to make a pass at her while she's drunk in her own home? Not to be a dick (but knowing I'll come off as one), judging by Chaos' threads, relationship advice isn't his strong suit. Never claimed it was. I don't like being around people and aside from going to work I like to just stay home alone. Occassionaly I get the urge to hook up so will find a girl to go out and get sloshed with and see what happens. The longer they bother me to do stuff afterwards the less successful the relationship was.

In support of Chaos you can't 'take advantage' of a drunk girl if you are also drunk. Then both people are literally 'not thinking clearly'.
In support of Devil's Advocacy how many of the people saying Prof is being sleazy would consider that a girl is taking advantage of a guy when she's sober and he's drunk?

Shouldn't have done it over text and with so much time being spent away.
Shoulda asked her in person, and she could you tell this face to face. That would be easier for you to get over.

For what it's worth, if my girlfriend of nearly seven years comes back from a night out, I'll often have my wicked way, providing she's sober enough to actually provide consent (and she's normally initiating it anyway). However, if she's like passed out drunk, that's a big no-no. However, if I was with a new girl, there's no way I would if I was sober and she was drunk, even if consent is given. That would make me feel far too sleazy. I also wouldn't like it if I was drunk and she was sober, either.

This thread took a turn...... No joke, hopefully some of the debate can be curbed. I'd like this thread to stay open long enough to get an update when his room mate gets back in town.

One time I was making out with this girl on the dance floor. We were drinking, but she was a lot drunker, and most people can tell by the look in one's face and their demeanour. That's when you're like, well, that's not happening, tell her friends she's really drunk and get some water so they don't have a wicket hangover. But yeah, I think Joey Ryan would think that stuff was sleazy.
Anyway, the denial is always scary, like, having been denied so many times especially if it's a roommate. If it doesn't work out though, you could do more chores to make up for the awkwardness as a peace offering haha.

Honestly, I think it's better to be turned down than always thinking "what if?".
Although I agree with the posters who questioned 1) doing it over text, and 2) asking a roommate out in general. I guess it was too late to change the roommate part, but waiting until she got home and telling her face to face would have been better. Texting is a dangerous game.

It is and that applies to anything. Its easy to misread tone or intention in a text or email

That would be every bit as shitty because it's taking advantage of someone when they aren't thinking clearly and can't realistically consent to anything. It's also known as rape.

No if's, no but's, no coconuts, consent isn't given straight up rape, no matter the gender.

It should also be noted that the quote was "she comes home drunk and you're there and one thing leads to another", which in no way indicates you're both impaired or drinking together. That's a textbook example of taking advantage, if you ask me, and I'm not sure how it can be defended. And I'm sorry in advance to the OP if the thread gets locked, but we fell into a dangerous pit.

To me there are three people you don't date. Your friend's sibling, your friend's exes, and roommates to many complications for each one
