Raised ramp = no stairs = no steel stair matches
so obviously, a big nay from over here

The WWF would use a raised ramp on rare occasions. The King King Bundy/Kamala confrontation happened because of being on the ramp (Bundy was leaving the ring after a match, Kamala was coming to the ring for the next, and there just wasn't enough room to go around).

Pretty sure that was the set-up for MLG. I like any different kind of set-up. I`d rather they just walk out from the curtain like in the Boston Gardens and go wrestle but at least change the sets up for PPVs and stuff. Makes it a little different and fun.

I like it. It raises the whole affair above the audience and makes it all look super big league to me.
Though, not having a rampway means less suicide dives since there's not a clear runway for guys. I do love my suicide dives

Like most things in wrestling, familiarity breeds contempt. It's like a steel cage, it gives wrestlers an opening for some cool spots, but they quickly lose all impact when they're used on nearly every match at a show.
TNA's ramp was tainted for me because the only reason they had it to begin with was so the 'star' of the show could get to the ring.

With most things as long as it isn't 'all the time and always' - why not?
At the moment WWE at least is so generic. The entrance to left of the hard camera. Same as the MSG mini-entrance would get stale if it was there ALL the time. Raised ramp, sloped ramp, no ramp, entrance to the left, entrance to the right, entrance opposite the hard camera, straight aisle, bendy aisle - I've time for them all. Variety is the key.

I liked the raised ramp in WCW, I felt it made the event so much more important and made the performers feel larger than life. To me, growing up, WWF was bigger and better so WCW having a small advantage was nice. I was pretty disappointed when they did away with the ramp in mid 1994. I think the first PPV Hogan was on was the event they no longer used the ramp. WWF, as mentioned, used the ramp for the Maple Leaf Garden shows. I usually saw it on Coliseum Video ending, previewing the upcoming videos. Never saw it on the actual videos I rented. Years later, I saw a match or two on youtube and WWF had a separate setup, I guess since it wasn't a PPV, they didn't have the draperies so you'd see the guys walking up stairs to the ramp. I especially liked the raised ring for stadium shows in WWF, like Big Event, WrestleMania III, VI and VIII.

Thought it looked really cool. I loved when WCW did it. So much so, that I used to use my NES and Sega Genesis boxes to create a ramp to my wrestling figures' ring. And here I thought I was the only one who did that! Although I used pieces of boards that I broke when I took tae kwon do. After WCW stopped using it in mid-1994, it was a nice surprise to see it come back at Slamboree 2000 even though the announcers acted like this was some new thing that WCW never used before. (Seriously, watch the show on WWE Network and you'll see what I mean.) It didn't occur to me until years later that the company most likely brought it back just so it could re-enact Mick Foley's famous bump at King of the Ring '98.

I really enjoyed the ramp in WCW and Japan. Can't speak for TNA because I didn't watch it during that era. It just elevated the wrestlers above the floor and made the entrance look more significant somehow. It also made for some interesting spots, like running from the locker room entrance and diving over the top rope onto the opponent, or Irish whipping the opponent into the ropes from the ramp.... just different stuff.

The WWF actually did use it! I do recall a bunch of old Maple Leaf Garden house shows, circa '87-88, that used that raised ramp structure.
The one match I remember seeing was a battle royal. Which was......odd, considering how a battle royal works. Most, if not all, of the eliminations occurred on the other 3 sides; I wanna even say they didn't count anything on the aisle side of the ring.
I was fascinated by it when I first saw WCW shows back in the early '90s. It just so completely stood out as something new and different compared to the standard WWF aisles in the day.
By the time TNA used it, though, a lot had changed and the novelty of it hadn't transferred over those ever-changing years.
I'd sure hate to have been a paying fan sitting right by that raised aisle, though.

it takes away the whole "babyface/fan interaction" aspect of shows since the guy is on a ramp and can't really give high fives from there

It's not awful, gives the performers a more "larger than life" appearance. But I prefer no ramp at all. Still don't like the steel ramp leading up to the titantron

I liked it. Thought it looked cool. Heck, I think they should use it for a Royal Rumble. It will be interesting to see out they'd incorporate it.

I used to think it looked cool. Now, I think it looks like rickety metal staging that will probably hurt someone.

What happens with battle royals on a show with a ramp to the ring? The other three sides, you can catch yourself on the apron and try to get back in the ring. You land on the apron on the side of the ring with the ramp attached, then you're out right? Unless you keep your feet really tight to the ropes on the apron so your feet aren't touching the ramp and take a "the ramp is lava!" approach. That or you'd have to land on the middle rope as opposed to the apron during that spot.

Found it... www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbRIjSXGNT0A June 1987 WWF battle royal with the raised ramp at the Maple Leaf Gardens. That ramp side of the ring is only used for rest holds against the ropes. But about 8 mins in, Johnny V gets tossed over onto the ramp, but gets back in & Monsoon comments that it doesn't count as an elimination. Did WCW ever do any battle royals when they had the ramp? I can't remember if they did. Battle Bowl 91 had the ramp and a battle royal. Not to mention the double ring setup. ........so they avoid the ramp issue by having the battle royal in the ring on the far side from the ramp (with 1 or 2 people spilling over into the other ring, where IIRC the match ends with Sting tossing Luger over the ropes to the floor).
