Honestly, whenever I spend money on myself... I feel a little guilty. I almost feel like, if I'm gonna buy myself a new game.. I HAVE to buy something small for everyone in the house, even if it's just lunch. To the point, where if I'm given money for a holiday... I generally end up passing it off for something they need.
I definitely see the dislike for Gift Cards... but to me, if I'm given a Gamestop gift card... it's a guilt-free way of buying something for myself because I can't use it for any other purpose.
I'm cool with gift cards. If they tailor it to you specifically it shows real effort.
Lotto tickets on the other hand...GTFO of my house!
Lottery tickets are an INSTITUTION in my family. The rug next to my recently deceased grandma's rocking chair was silvery black from all the scratch offs she would do, 50 at a time.
It is absolutely not unusual for there to be near silence in my house at Christmas because literally everyone is scratching off the cards with whatever coins are handy.
Yeah... similar in my family. Although this is the first year that I remember that my mother didn't give me a bunch of scratch offs ... I'm guessing it's becuase my dad won 200 bucks off of the ones he got for his retirement a few weeks ago and she didn't want to push her luck
