Things moved much more slowly back then. Talent wasn't overexposed the way they are now. The biggest feuds were teased and protected in such a way that you could watch them for an entire year without getting sick of them. Creative didn't blow its load with every PPV and then book the same match the next PPV. There were so many things right about the way wrestling worked in those days, including the champion not wrestling on TV for months at a time.

Even at his height, Hogan wasn't necessarily on every single show even in promo form. Whatever it was I watched Saturday mornings, we could go weeks sometimes without a single promo from him. And then once he started doing movies (and extended injury angles) it became even less common. We were used to it. I didn't even fully realize he was gone until he was suddenly standing in the Raw ring and it just looked so...weird. Out of place. That's when I realized the WWF had finally moved on (yes, I know he came right back to the top for a bit, but he never stopped feeling out of place in an almost all-new WWF that had left him behind).

I got into wrestling when Hogan was on his way out the door the first time, he was still a presence, but Warrior, Savage and Hart were the ones who got me hooked. I loved Bret's fighting champion routine, it made it seem like he deserved to be where he is based on just how talented he was so I was irritated when Hogan returned to take the belt from Yoko. I thought 'Okay, I've seen his matches on VHS, they were boring so maybe there's something I'm missing just watching events, maybe he grows on you based on his promos and his minor matches...' Boy was I disappointed.

I remember that. I thought that his appearance on Raw took away from his stature more than it added to Raw's stature. When Raw debuted, the WWF started to feel more like a territory where the biggest stars were on your TV almost every week and the World Champion was defending the belt against 1-2-3 Kid. Imagine if Vince had the forethought to turn Hogan heel at that time instead of just grabbing Luger and trying to create Hulkamania 2.0.

I hated the 30 day clause. It was so randomly enforced in almost every organization.
