I think Shawn kind of stole it from everybody.
By adding all the theatrics, he made a simple kick to the face seem like a whole involved thing. When you see am isolated superkick, you're just like "oh there's a superkick." What's it matter? They're getting a two count anyway.
It would have value if you let someone consistently grab Ws with it, but I think it needs dressed up a little to have any hope of standing out.
If you took a guy that you always billed as having "a martial arts background" or "educated feet" and gave him a interesting enough variation of the move, you could still get it over.

People always used the superkick as a regular move even when Shawn Michaels was still active. Remember, it wasn't even Shawn's original finisher. He used it, but his first finisher was a teardrop suplex.

I think it's fine. Shawn's always looked different, anyway.
Most do theirs like Lance Storm's, where the kick is coming at you full force the whole time, where Shawn's sorta looked oftentimes like the kick equivalent of the one-inch punch, where the thrust comes right at the end. Then again, it may have just looked like that in part due to him being shorter than most of the guys he did it on.

He used it, but his first finisher was a teardrop suplex. Which I am kind of glad he stopped doing. He also did a piledriver finish, and of course there's the Rocker Dropper. The Sweet Chin Music was like his 4th WWF finish.

You haven't seen a Naomichi Marufuji match from 2005-2010.

You haven't seen a Naomichi Marufuji match from 2005-2010. That's probably a safe bet, particularly if you're being literal and mean like they haven't seen all of them, with even a single missing one being a DQ.

I was actually speaking about the "Superkick being devalued" thing. The guy did like one every transition he had to make. Which amounted to about 20 a match.

It's one of my all-time favorite finishing moves, so I do hate to see multiple people using it as non-finishing moves. Same thing happened to another one of my favorite finishers from the past, the DDT.

Bigger conspiracy-- several black wrestlers use the Scissors Kick as a finisher. I actually can't remember the last time I saw a Caucasian use one.

I remember hearing Shawn Michaels always being ok with other people using the Superkick, because if he uses it as a finish, it just means that his is better, and theirs is worse. Yeah, I've always heard stories about other wrestlers asking him if it was cool for them to use it and he just said that he didn't mind since he didn't invent it anyway.

It was the same during the Attitude Era, it was like the suicide dive through the ropes in WWE 2014, seemingly everybody used it to pad out their moveset.

I can only think of Alicia and Booker using the Scissor Kick, which ain't that much of a conspiracy. Now the leaping reverse STO, that's a conspiracy. I think in the space of a few months, Shelton, MVP and Truth all used it.

Like that point in time where like ten guys tried using the Overdrive.

Well, you've gotta realize, HBK stomps his foot in the corner for like 30 seconds before doing it. His kick gains power from that. If the Usos started doing that for their double superkick, it would send their opponent's head flying off into the crowd.
