If you're in to cinematic RPG's I can't recommend the Mass Effect series enough. The combat is very similar to a first-person shooter. But there are RPG elements like stat-building, experience, different gear. And where it excels more than anything is the story. If you like shit like Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars, Star Trek you should enjoy it. I don't know where I can send you a demo or anything because the three games eat up a lot of time. Any demo would barely scratch the surface. I guess you could try reading some reviews online.
But yeah, Mass Effect is the best series I've played in the last ten years.

Get Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. It is so much fun to play with company around. If the Capcom side isn't very familiar to you, then the Marvel side would be a good starting point for making your teams. Plus, there's a Simple mode, which means that you don't have to deal with some of the more in-depth stuff in Normal mode.

If your into insanely difficult RTS's check out X-Com.
BioShock Infinite, is a must play game of the last gen.
Alien Isolation if you want something a little newer is a great survival horror. (Is it Silent Hill 2 levels not quite but what is)

Edit: Uncharted also falls into that category. Shit, I read this earlier... went back, saw PS3 and totally missed that it had blown. Disregard. Bioshock: Infinite is pretty good, South Park: The Stick Of Truth was good for a laugh, Watch Dogs doesn't deserve the shit it gets, but stay the hell away from Destiny unless you're looking to become incredibly invested then immediately bored.

Then they finally released 1 on PS3 so I played that, then I played some Final Fantasy but all I wanted to do was play Mass Effect again so I played through 1, 2 then 3 again. This is all between July 2011 and December 2013. So I got a little obsessed. But if you can get in to it like I did you will find something you'll really love...namely a blue chick named Liara. I guess what I'm trying to say is don't think that starting with 2 is a bad idea.

I already told you, Deadly Premonition;
The greatest video game ever that is a total rip off of "Twin Peaks", even though Sweary has stated he has never watched "Twin Peaks". But it's totally "Twin Peaks".
oh, and Skullgirls;

The xbox has a massive external fan and no disc drive so when i get games i have to copy them to the pc then share them via network onto the xbox hard disk

Alan Wake
got that resident evil snd evil within over the shoulder style and kinda awkward combat (but not too awkward,). More of a thriller than a horror though (which it points out on the front of the box), borrows elements from Stephen King, The Twilight Zone and Twin Peaks. Great writing and characters.
you'll want the 2 extra episodes that are DLC, in fact they're pretty much a requirement, one of them is my favourite episode out of the lot.
Then there's American Nightmare which was a standalone Downloadable game done on a low budget, if you really really enjoy the first game it's worth getting, better combat, good story which is seperate from the previous game, very twilight zone style, only issue is it loops the same levels over and over again, but its worth it as there is alot more variety in combat and the story is interesting.
It's also by the same studio as the first two max payne games.

The two Darksiders games are awesome, but don't get a lot of love.

I'd personally recommend GTA V. If you want a more budget-friendly alternative, Saints Row 2 os the best from that series, though I wished I could get a physical copy of the complete version. I also suggest the third, but that's when it became all-style, no-substance.
Don't mean to hijack this thread myself, but I cannot decide between Far Cry 3 or Just Cause 2 for my PS3. Which one is more fun? I'm playing Far Cry 2, and it's good, but it is a royal pain getting to places... does 3 & 4 (I'll get the PS3 version) have similar issues?

Just Cause 2 takes the sandboxiness of the GTA games and turns it up to 11.
