WWE recently made changes to their performers contracts following the departures of Alberto del Rio and CM Punk over the past year. The contracts now state that if a talent is fired for disciplinary reasons by the WWE that they forfeit all of their merchandise rights and are not allowed to work in professional wrestling or MMA for one year. www.wrestling-news.net/changes-made-to-wwe-contracts/58828/If true, that's pretty f***ing petty. That won't hold up in court. Punk and Del Rio schooled them on that and I hope the wrestlers know that. If I were a wrestler, I'd sign it, and then take them to court and win. The only issue is if people want to spend money up front for a lawyer.

If true, for a company with an apparently great legal team, WWE f***s up in a lot of areas when it comes to wrestler contracts. I genuinely want to know why they try stuff like this when every time someone challenges it, WWE loses. They try holding CM Punk's royalties and then end up giving him all of it, plus more. I don't get the mindset to impose these clearly bullshit policies when everyone in WWE knows that their "independent contractor" facade would be easily beaten if anyone challenged it. It's just weird.

Not buying this at all. WWE legal ain't that stupid, and there isn't even a source on this story. It's just a statement of fact by the site like it's common knowledge. "Lets get these m*****f*****s"

They left out the part about having their genitals mutiliated and agreeing to endorse the public execution of homeless children while wearing their merchandise.
........because this story doesn't *quite* seem petty enough, so why not add this stuff in, WWE?
Man, I'm so glad I never worked in pro wrestling. What a terrifying culture to be a part of...

WWE thinks they can just throw whatever they want into a contract and as long as it's in the contract, there's nothing anyone can do about it. "If we fire you, we get to come over to your house and kick your kids in the face." And now I understand why contracts work the way they do on WWE TV - where you can actually assault the person who intended to sign the contract and sign it in there place, and somehow still have an enforceable deal.

Didn't Punk say you can't put a no compete clause on an independent contractor?

Remember that time when Shawn Michaels kicked Chris Benoit and signed the WM contract to face HHH?
Vince thinks that's how contracts really work.
Someone needs to end this independent contractor BS. Unfortunately, too many people are willing to work for table scraps just to be on WWE TV, so it will never happen.

Who in WWE's legal department made Lionel Hutz in charge of crafting contracts?
