Yep, it's Otunga. He kept his name because they didn't want to muddy up the connection between them and Jennifer Hudson. Which is weird because I don't remember a single time where they've mentioned them being married.

Really doesn't count but I think is worth mentioning KENTA came in under his real name and was heavily hyped as Kenta before they announced the change during his debut promo. Cannot remember if Devitt was the same or if they just cut to the new name since his debut was on a taped show. Steen was also heavily hyped by WWE as Kevin Steen but debuted as Kevin Owens. Yep, it's Otunga. He kept his name because they didn't want to muddy up the connection between them and Jennifer Hudson. Which is weird because I don't remember a single time where they've mentioned them being married. They cannot because they aren't married (her family getting murdered pushed it back and caused his first leave I believe). They did mention it a lot during NXT 1 and up to his random Big Johnny appearance.

I think it was also due to them thinking he had (or would continue to gain) a bit of a name for himself on a reality show and from his wife. He was a very mild celebrity under his own name at the time.

Other than Sting, is CM Punk the last one to keep their own, old ring name? Yeah, Punk's the last new guy to come in and keep his ring name, and he'll probably be the last one for a very, very long time. I seem to recall the only reason he got to keep it is Paul Heyman campaigned hard for it.

Other than Sting, is CM Punk the last one to keep their own, old ring name? Technically, he isn't. Cody Rhodes worked a bit outside of WWE under that name and he got to keep his name. This is probably also true for Ted DiBiase, Jr. They got to keep their names because WWE wanted to market them for their family legacy. However, this would shortly change as second/third generation wrestlers would soon be repackaged as well, even if it's just changing the first name. Case in point: Manu, Sim Snuka, Natalya, Primo, Epico, Husky Harris Curtis, Axel/Michael McGillicutty, and Charlotte all had their names changed, even though their family connections were acknowledged.

I'm sure it was more of a thing where any time her husband would be mentioned in tabloids or TV or whatever, they're namedropping a WWE Superstar to anyone who might Google him.

They keep that name for a connection most WWE fans don't care about but 2nd and 3rd generation guys get their names changed to not make a connection with their dads. WWE is bizarre. ENTERTAINMENT

Strangely enough, they DID give him one of the typical "Dusty Rhodes Naming Machine" names when he was in FCW ("Dawson Alexander"), but it later got changed back to his real name.

David Otunga has Serena beat by 1 month Even Serena had a fake name (Mia Mancini -> Serena Mancini). "Deeb" was never used on WWE programming.

While it's not his real last name, considering how we're talking about how the second and third gens get changed nowadays...would Richie Steamboat count even if he never made it to the main roster?
