What the hell is going on? Where do I go? What are the online features? Why should I praise the sun? HELP.
I've made a terrible mistake playing this...

I have no clue. I made the mistake of buying this (and Demons Souls, and Dark Souls 2) and never made any progress in any of them. I venture forth, get repeatedly murdered by overcharged enemies, get frustrated, and quit.
And I've never understood how to play co-op. have never once played with another soul.

The beginner guide within this Neogaf thread helped me a lot www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=755000Although from the start it basically comes down being shuttled to Undead Burg and then inching your way from bonfire to bonfire until you ring a bell, if you see a lot of bloodstains and messages on the floor use them and be extra cautious. Also don't accidentally kill friendly NPCs.

You have to take things at a very slow and deliberate pace. Keep your guard up. Don't overextend your aggression. Expect that around every corner, something waits to murder you. Take your time, learn enemy patterns.

Always block, even if you're just wandering about.
Also, go upwards at the start. All your instincts will tell you to head down towards the graveyard, but that's some mid-game shit down there, you'll get your arse kicked by the skeletons until you can get a Silver weapon to keep them down. Go up, you get some nice soft zombies and rats. Head for the castle, don't fight the drake, ring the bell and you're well on your way.

Play Lords of the Fallen until you are man enough for Dark Souls. Seriously, the game controls exactly the same way, progression is almost exactly the same, but it is way more forgiving. And a really good game.
I finally got in to Dark Souls with help from a FANny. I think it was Friskey, but that was like April, and f*** memory.

Dark Souls was one of those games that I bought, played it for about an hour, and immediately put it up on eBay.

I tried with these games.
I'm just too damn terrible at them.
It's one of those games where if I watch a Let's Play to the end, I consider myself to have beaten it cuz there's no way I would be able to do it myself.

Sorry first rule of dark souls you don't help someone through their first play through of dark souls. Haha. I love that. This game series sounds like something I would love so much.

What I learned from watching the Super Best Friends LP; • Drop your shield. • You know what I mean? • Perfect.

I've been wondering what the point of a game that's so hard it's not even fun is? I've always played video games because they're fun. Am I wrong here?

I've been wondering what the point of a game that's so hard it's not even fun is? I've always played video games because they're fun. Am I wrong here? Some people just "get it." They know how to move, how to parry, how to make the game look really fun. Me? I make no bones about the fact I can't play it is, I don't have patience, and my skill plateaus very early on in a game. No matter how much I practice, no matter what I do, I'll always be significantly lower on the totem pole than anyone else. It's why I gave up on FPS multiplayer as well, I get tired of being the one one-shotted all the time with a .01 K/D and never able to get any better. But some people, they take to it like a duck to water... it's not easy for them, but they are able to adapt and learn in a way I cannot and they can make their way through the game. Sucks, cuz I really like the art style and the creatures look really cool.... I just know, on my own accord, I'll never see them.

I've been wondering what the point of a game that's so hard it's not even fun is? I've always played video games because they're fun. Am I wrong here? I am middle of the road, I get it, I enjoy it, but I am not as jacked on it as others. That sad, it is not so hard it isn't fun, hell, they aren't *that* hard at all. You have to learn from your mistakes and learn patterns and try again. It is life, the video game. The real reason I play it is that once I figure out how to do something and stop making dumbass mistakes (95% of my deaths are my fault), once I get that down, I feel accomplished. I overcame an obstacle. And most games just do not do that. Honestly, it is just like Mega Man in that way. You just have to play it enough to learn the movement and level layouts. Once you get it, it becomes mechanical.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa. What the hell is going on? Dark Souls is one of the most fun games of all time. What I would suggest is ignoring some of the posts here and definitely looking up a guide or a video if you need help.
The beauty of Dark Souls is once your know what you're doing, you feel like the greatest badass in the world. Use a shield, level your dex, level up your weapon. I f***ing thought I would never get the hang of Dark Souls, but eventually it clicked. It scares me that so many people in this thread gave up so easily. It's trial and error. You aren't spoonfed victory like most rpgs.

Games are meant to be enjoyable, I never enjoyed the Dark Souls series, even after I completed 1 and 2. It was a chore rather than a joy. I'll certainly never play through them again.
And, imo 2 was just plain not as good as 1.

I love all three Souls games, and have waaay to many hours into all of them.
You go anywhere that is not the graveyard.
The online features are people can come from their game and rek you when you're in human form, but you can also summon players to help you beat the game. Its one of the best forms of multiplayer I've ever seen.
You praise the sun if you join a certain faction later on in the game.
It is never a mistake to play Dark Souls, the mistake is not playing it sooner.
General tips
Pay attention to your weapon scaling. If you want to use a sword that has a B scaling in Dex then you don't need to level strength
2 handing is king
Armor can be useful, but until later in the game lighter more mobile ones are best
You will die a million times. You will lose your souls. You can always get more.

I've been wondering what the point of a game that's so hard it's not even fun is? I've always played video games because they're fun. Am I wrong here? There is fun in challenge, and I would not say these games are too hard. And I'm a very casual player, apart from these games. Its more like "This is too hard. But then I did this, and now its not". It has a very fair difficulty, and anything thats too hard means you just haven't figured it out yet. Thats why you can go through it as any class with all sorts of different powers, because you can beat everything is mutiple ways, you just have to learn how to do it. There's very, very few 'cheap' deaths in the Souls series, and even those you can avoid once you know what they are. Anyone wanting a taste can also start with Dark souls 2, its so much easier than the other two its not even funny, and being newer means there's a lot more people online for co-op to help you more.
