Talking to someone who has Comcast and they hate it. I remember the cable I had as a kid in this small town. We had no PPV options and just 40 channels. Only good thing you had was ESPN. HBO and Showtime

Comcast/Xfinity has been good. Anytime I've had to call them for anything, they have been very helpful

The only thing I really remember is that on a tv not hooked to a cable box it was really easy to get the WWF PPV's to come in for free. All I had to do was leave it on that channel for a few minutes for the broken screen and white noise to pass. So, I liked it just fine.

I remember my uncle had that big dish outside and could almost get anything on there

When I was a kid, I remember a long stretch of only having like 35-36 channels in a decently populated city.
I knew there was a long time I was pissed cause I didn't have Cartoon Network. That came when we went up to 40 channels.

I didn't have cable as a small kid. I didn't get any type of non-OTA channels until my dad got DirecTV when I turned 12 ten years ago.

We had maybe 42 channels, none of them premium, unless they were free preview weekends. I even remember when Disney Channel was premium. Yeah

When I was a kid, we had TCI Cable. They were okay for regular TV watching but when it came to ordering PPV events and movies, boy did they suuuuck! Sometimes you got what you ordered, sometimes you didn't or if you did, it started late. I hated them so much that I actually changed my AOL screen name to "I HATE TCI." Yes, really. I don't remember when it happened, but at some point AT&T Broadband replaced TCI. I liked this new company--PPV ordering became much more reliable and we got new channels like the Food Network and Game Show Network. My town has had Comcast since the early 2000s. I agree with edgestar -- their customer service was very helpful when I called to sign up for WWE 24/7 even if it takes awhile to navigate through the various menu options. But their constant rate hikes are slowly driving me away; a few months ago I downgraded to Digital Economy and my bill still goes up. I know, I know, rights fees and all that. But this is WITHOUT those expensive sports channels. My brother and I would often stay at our grandma's house when our parents needed someone to watch us. We always wanted to visit our aunt and uncle because they had cable.

Great. Satellite with all the channels. Would never go back to Cable Only way I would is for decent 'net access. Verizon DSL is horrid. Growing up, my Grandmother who lived 3 miles away had it but it wasn't installed in my area until I was 6 and only got a small number of channels, maybe 20-25. It was a big deal when we finally cracked the 35 channel mark and that was thanks to CNN and HLN and think we got PPV a year later in 95. The company itself kept getting acquired or sold. Started out as Basic before becoming Friendship and they kept the name but changed hands 4 different times before we switched to Dish. Eventually they pulled out of the area completely leaving 4 towns and 3 unincorporated areas as only having TV access though satellite. Thanks to the HD switch most cannot get Dallas locals unless they shell out several hundred dollars for a huge antennae and professional installation.

Grew up in northern New Jersey and did not get cable until I was about 15. Our first converter box was attached to the television by a thick brown cable and had twelve buttons and a three position rocker switch. Basically a maximum of 36 channels of which it only actually used 30. HBO only broadcast for about ten hours a night. MTV and ESPN did not exist yet. Yup. 1980.

Count me as another who had only free t.v. til I was a senior in high school, around 2000. We weren't a big t.v. or movie family so it didn't bother me.

Great. Satellite with all the channels. This was the case until my folks built a new house when I was 12. Our new place did not have a decent place to put the dish (satellite dishes were 9 ft tall monstrosities in 1986, so no mounting on the roof like my current dish).
