When I was a kid, my family had normal cable so I got to essentially watch all the kids Networks except Disney Channel (that was a premium channel throughout the nineties.)

I'm old. My cable came with one of these boxes. Can actually remember when Mtv came on the air. There wasn't very many channels. the ones I remember are WTBS, WGN, Showtime, HBO, ESPN, and CNN. I also had that. And I also had Cablevision. A decent amount of channel spots were split (like channel 30 had E! during the day and MSG at night). What does it say I could recite their cable lineup from the early 90's or so

We just had basic cable (2-72) until I was about 13 when we first got digital cable.

Had a GIANT satellite out in the back yard. It was weird because the channels were like typing in a code. Cartoon Network was G1-8 and HBO was G5-15? We didn't get ppv channels or anything so I don't think it was illegal (I knew a guy who had Directv with a special card that got everything including ppvs).

we had basic cable from Cablevision growing up... we did always have HBO though... my parents always said that we didn't have the right box to order/recieve pay-per-view... I think they were lying to me so I'd stop asking them to buy WWF ones

I mostly grew up with antenna tv when I was a kid. If I wanted to watch cable, I had to go to my grandparents' place. We did get cable for a while from Prime Cable. I couldn't remember how many channels we had but I do remember that we had Nickelodeon, the Disney Channel, MTV, the Weather Channel, and I remember them being more than what we had OTA. It didn't last long since we couldn't afford it and it was back to sucky OTA TV.
Then when we moved to a new place in around 2000 we found out that the cable was still on, so we had free basic cable for about a few years. I was able to catch stuff like Toonami, Dexter's Laboratory, PPG, etc. And then that got cut off and it was back to sucky OTA TV.

I was one of the few kids that had the Pay TV Channels. The pay channels were 24,25,34,35. 35 being the highest channel available without satellite. 1 didn't exist. 2 was french 3 was weather. 5 was home shopping. 8 was the TV guide. so there weren't that many channels to choose from

I grew up with TCI. We had 32 channels initially, including Disney and Cinemax. (The latter was due to a free weekend that was never shut off. When my dad called to inform them of their error, the lady at customer service called him a goody two-shoes and hung up him. The same thing happened with Encore a few years later.) My dad was also a huge antenna nerd, so we always had access to stations from Youngstown, Wheeling/Steubenville and Johnstown/Altoona. And about TCI: They always got hot stations like Comedy Central and Food Network three years later than almost everyone else. It's still better than those poor bastards with Adelphia - they had Bravo in 1986, but didn't get Cartoon Network until 2005.

Talking to someone who has Comcast and they hate it. I remember the cable I had as a kid in this small town. We had no PPV options and just 40 channels. Only good thing you had was ESPN. HBO and Showtime Beening born in the mid 70s. And living in a super rural area until I was almost 21 we couldn't even get cable until December 1990. It was Rural Cablevision. They at first offered 25 channels for $50. For $10 a piece you could get Showtime,The Movie Channel and Disney Channel. There was no PPV. I paid for both movie channels and for some reason from when we first got it until I moved years later we always got Disney but never paid for it. The best part was Rural Cablevision covered huge areas that were ultra rural. But only had like 4 repair men. So if something messed up it could be up to 4 days before it got fixed. One very strange thing was it was the first service in the area to offer Sci Fi Channel.

Ok, so who else here ever paid someone to give you codes to unlock all the channels? Those with satellite around, oh 1991-93 should know what I mean. You entered the codes, you got all the PPV, porn and TV for free? You could after those years, but the codes changed so often you couldn't really keep up, like a few times a week, then a few times a day.
In fact, paying for TV is something I still view as a rip-off after all these years.

I hade channels 2, 4, 5, and sometimes 7 until I was about 12. After that we had a basic cable package with a few extra channels thrown in. I haven't had cable or satellite in a couple of years now... Since I've moved to Korea, I think I just have basic Korean channels now, but I'm not certain. That's beyond me.

We had 69 channels up until I was 8 then my parents upgraded and got all the channels that our cable provider(cox) provided.

Basic cable for half of my childhood, but I didn't mind. I had MTV, Disney, Cartoon Network, and Nick to keep my occupied. Then my parents got satelite... and it was a whole new world. But when I moved out on my own, all I could afford (and still all I can) was 40 channels. When I go to my parent's house, I just go straight to the TV and watch all the channels that I am currently missing.

Parents got cable in the 1980s. Back in the days when the Disney Channel was a PPV station like HBO.
I remember the scrambled reception for the Spice Channel. Always hoping you might catch a boob before the snow screen occurs.

While residing in Johnstown, NY, we had one of those rotary cable boxes to watch HBO. Sammons Communications was our provider, until Time Warner Cable took over.
