In your humbly esteemed opinion, what is the acceptable amount of time to leave your Christmas Decs up once Christmas Day is over It's January 4th when I make this thread and believe we are still technically in the festive season, I personally say January 6th is the latest that it's ok, that for me is when the festive season is over and you just look like a lunatic if you keep them up I know some people who take them straight down on Boxing Day, some just before the new year. Though I have seen some houses that still them up at February. So when did you take your Decs down (assuming you had any up) and when do you feel is the latest you should be allowed to keep the, up for?

I've always assumed January 6th was the last day to keep them up, according to many traditions that is the Epiphany, or Three Kings Day. (Also considered the Twelfth Day of Christmas.) But, as goofy as weather can be around here, the first nice day in January you get, take them down...otherwise they will be up there until April when the ice and snow finally melts.

According to Joe Garrelli in an episode of Newsradio, it's best to just trash all of the decorations on the last day of work before Christmas so everyone isn't bummed when they come back to work.

1 week after New Years. I mean nobody leaves their Halloween decorations up 2 weeks into November.

Technically the season doesn't end until January 5th/January 6th But in reality it's usually the first weekend of good weather in January

I stick to the January 6th rule. I actually am known to put stuff up all the up until Christmas Eve. Be darned if I'm pulling it down right away after all that.

If you still have them up around MLK Day then you're just lazy.

January 7th is Russian Christmas, the original orthodox Christmas, so having them up until then is fine.
In my neighborhoods both in MN and NYC, MLK day is when the last of them comes down. It's often the first day off when people really have time to remove them, or when if you have to reschedule Christmas festivities due to family travel issues or weather problems, they usually fall on that weekend.

Depends.
We just have lights up. Those stay up until there's a nice enough day to go and take them down. With a forecast of snow and -20F windchill the bulk of this week, they'll be up for a bit yet. It's not nearly as bad if you don't turn them on.

I generally take mine down the weekend after New Years. It may take me another week to get the last of the lights off the roof, but that is the latest I go.
By the second week of January, I have the kids decorating the house for valentines day.

Mine stay up until I wake up one morning and get pissed at the fact they're still up. Then I take it down as quickly as possible.... which is why we probably end up having dozens of smashed ornaments by the time I set it up the following year.

I LOVE Christmas-that being said, I like routine in my life, and I think that some are just now getting back to business, especially since school is back in session.
Frankly, unless you're sick, or the weather is bad, I think New Year's day should be it, but one could stretch it out til that weekend I guess.
Personally, it gets kind of sad by the 27th-cause Christmas is beyond over by that point, much as I love it.

I take them down the first weekend I have free after my last Holiday celebration. This year it's odd since our last Christmas was yesterday and I have a wedding next weekend. Probably won't take them down until the 17th this year.
