Going to double post to say this: Yes I wrote that as a joke whoever in thinking I really think their could be a market for advertising something as average in a culture in which everything is advertised as the best or most extreme. Like if I saw a deodorant advertised and the campaign was: "Hey this is going to help you smell less at work. Let's be honest here, you're not going to go rock climbing and you're not going to screw a supermodel" You're going to your job and then your probably going to go home." I would buy that over a brand that panders to me like Old Spice does.

I never understood why Mountain Dew was associated with extreme sports like Snowboarding.

Made me think of this: Now, I know there are plenty of professional ass wipes, but are there really professional ass wipers? If so, I'm thinking a career change may be in order!

I always thought Kmart did this in the late 90s, it was a sad attempt at competing with target or walmart. Because lemmie tell you something the kmart near me is like half the size, if that of a walmart and in no way would anyone say its a big kmart for even a kmart! and of course it still has the Big Kmart sign.

Bigger, bolder and louder are always better in advertising. Not necessarily "dumber", but most people figure that if you're not confident that your product is the best, why should they give it their time?

Not necessarily "dumber", but most people figure that if you're not confident that your product is the best, why should they give it their time? Because they think you're being realistic and that could have value. I don't care if something is the best in most cases. I care if it works. So I'd rather have "hey _____ works. It's pretty good. You should buy it if you want."

Marketing gimmickry cracks me up.
The fact that's an actual job that you can get that you're probably well compensated for doesn't.
You take a bag of chips, add a dopey word like "blazin" or "ragin," trail some flames, sparks or something from the lettering and change the font to something a little more XTREME and suddenly the stuff'll move because people are idiots.
I almost wish we didn't have any sort of truth-in-advertising laws so they could just go nuts with the stuff. Enough careful wording, dancing around potential concerns and hyping non-features. I want outright lies.
"Our new product is garunteed to increase your penis size by fourteen inches and makes people hang on every word of all the stories that you tell" and it's like a wet wipe or something.

I think the implication there was supposed to be that Big Kmart had more stuff than a regular Kmart did. We used to have a Big Kmart that looked to be about the size of the one in that picture and (at first) it did have more stuff like jewelry and a more diverse electronics section.

There was a Kmart, Big Kmart, & a Super Kmart all within 15 min of me. Big & Super are still around, while the normal Kmart was turned into a parking lot for a grocery store.

I've never heard of a Super Kmart. Sounds like a really weird way of advertising bigger stores.
