Do we really need to ruin a beloved anime with a needless movie? Hasn't stopped them before. l Ugh, this movie pissed me off with how awful it is

I actually kind of like the Speed Racer movie, even if it kind of makes more sense as an F-Zero one. The Speed Racer movie was more fun than I thought it'd be. Visuals are kinda garish and overwhelming at times, but it was a pretty loving tribute to the character and Emile Hirsch was the best Speed possible. That was more than I could say for shit like I dunno, the live action Scooby Doos. My problem with Speed Racer was that it was about 30 minutes too long, also Spritle shit me

Having not yet seen Ghost in the Shell (yeah, I know, I know), either way this could be a dangerous thing. *Is also reminded of a rumor I heard almost 2 decades ago about the idea of a Sailor Moon movie with Geena Davis as Beryl
That only existed thanks to that stupid Writers' Strike back in '07. I'm positive it'd still be stuck in development hell with all the other anime movies if not for that happening. I don't think GITS has a good chance of being made.

They've talked about a live action, U.S. Lupin the Third movie for a while too.
Would've loved to see Jean Reno as Golgo 13 during the late '90s- early 00's.

Something tells me this is gonna be to her what BattleField Earth was to John Travoltas career.

It wasn't based on an anime, though. It was based on a light novel, so yes it was still based on something Japanese in origin, but not an anime. >_>

Something tells me this is gonna be to her what BattleField Earth was to John Travoltas career. Probably not. She's pretty well protected by being involved with Marvel, since those are pretty much guaranteed hits. Worst case scenario is probably a setback like Hudson Hawk was for Bruce Willis, though Willis and Travolta didn't benefit from the fact both were personally involved with the project in more than just starring in it, so it was easier for more of the failure to linger on them.

Yep, the Wachowski brothers (or whatever their names are) went to the producer with a copy of the movie and told him that they wanted to essentially do Ghost in the Shell but do it live-action. I was actually making a joke, Doug Walker is doing a Matrix month this January so it's amusing the timing on this announcement.
