These have to be troll accounts. For humanity's sake, these have to be troll accounts. The pictured ones all are. The two in the middle saying the same damned thing should have made it obvious to the people pushing this all over the internet. Hell, the first guy says in his bio he's a joke account. It's is #CuttingforBieber all over again.

Fact: This actually isn't the first time the internet didn't know who Paul McCartney was.
I believe it was him during the grammys

Even if they are sarcastic, ironic shitposting is still shitposting. This is desperately unfunny.

Yeah, these are fake. Thanks to the internet, the average 12-year-old in 2014 probably has a deeper knowledge of music than most would assume.
And why the hell shouldn't Paul be honored? Yeezus Christ.

I'm so sick of these "satirical" things on the internet. Yea, they did this before when he played the Grammys-and I did fall for it then, now it's just not funny, and I hate that it gets them noticed-I wonder if they gain followers after being featured on the news like this-the "funny" twitter people I mean

I refuse to believe anyone doesn't know who Paul McCartney is, I mean they have google at their disposal. I have a friend who genuinely didn't know who he is. I did ask her how she can't know who somebody is in the age of the Internet, and her response was "I suck at Google". After a little more questioning, I found out that she's heard of The Beatles, but couldn't name a single song, nor a single member. Younger generations becoming less aware of cultural icons of the past is inevitable. We just live in a time when people can broadcast that fact to the masses.

Anyone else notice that this story hit right after Paul remarked that it was ridiculous that they teach courses about the Beatles?

Most of them are probably troll accounts. Desus I know for sure is joking, he cracks jokes about the Beatles all the time. Side note, Desus is hands down the funniest person on Twitter and my favorite person to follow.

Even if real, I don't see what the big deal is. The Beatles were 30-50 years ago and don't make the news regularly today. I wouldn't be surprised about people legitimately not knowing at least the names of its individual members.

I knew a guy about six years ago that had no clue about The Beatles. I wouldn't be surprised that some people didn't know who Paul was.

I wouldn't be surprised about people legitimately not knowing at least the names of its individual members. Every decade or so there is something that brings The Beatles back to the public mind. In the 90's it was the release of the Anthology and George's career revival. In the 00's George's death and the release of The Beatles: Rock Band both got the Beatles more pop station radio play. A few years ago it was the Beatles catalog finally being offered on iTunes, Paul's recent collaborations, and Paul doing the soundtrack to some new video game. I don't expect young kids to know the names of all of the members (though my kids can) or know all of the songs, but I refuse to believe that there is are too many people who are not at least aware that The Beatles existed and that they were the biggest thing ever. In short, while I would not be shocked if any kid could hear "Norwegian Wood", "Hey Bulldog", or "The Ballad of John and Yoko" on the radio and thought that it was by some hot, new act trying to be the next Black Keys, I would be shocked if they honestly asked, "Who's The Beatles?" when you corrected them.
