It's not a Walkman if it doesn't play tapes. Even the CD player version was called a Discman. This needs its own name.

You can buy a perfectly servicable walkman from any thrift store for under a dollar. How do I know this? I use them all the time.
Once again, Sony makes another fiscal blunder.

So I'm paying ten times the price of my smartphone for something that looks like my smartphone, is the size of my smartphone, runs the same OS as my smartphone but only does one of the things my smartphone does?
Yeah, sounds like a good deal to me.

I should've known what this was since I was all about the walkman as a kid.
However by the title alone, I assume it was some sort of superhero who was in no real hurry to assist a dangerous situation.
"Walkman will save us....eventually."

At least cash in on the Guardians of the Galaxy movie and release a retro style Walkman MP3 player or something.

And it will do well enough, it wont be a blunder because there is a market for it. Just like there is for Pono. This may cost more, but they wont be looking to sell it in huge numbers either.

Yeah, sounds like a good deal to me. I actually came into this thread thinking that the new Walkman was a smartphone. It's not a Walkman if it doesn't play tapes. Even the CD player version was called a Discman. This needs its own name. Mp3man doesn't roll off the tongue as well.

Apple barely gets away with selling iPod Touches, I don't see the market for a standalone Android device that can't make calls/texts, costs $1200, and runs an outdated Android version. I bet it'll be less than $200 within a year.

I bet it'll be less than $200 within a year. There is already a low end version planned or out at $300. And iPod touches are closed platforms. These accept SD cards so you can have as much music as you like. Also, Audiophiles hate Apple products due to using cheap parts and low sound quality. These allow for high bit rate music that apple players do not. There is barely a market for ipods because they suck for music fans and non music fans are fine with their phone.

I want to get one of those low end ones as someone who wants more music... But then again, I'm one of those "fine with my phone" types. Or at least, I'd be fine with my phone if it had a bit more storage space (16GB iPhone 5c user).

I am stuck with an ipod classic that I don't much care for because it is the only thing with decent storage, until recently. I was leaning towards a Pono player, which is rad as hell, but the lower end Sony is a $100 cheaper. I could never use my phone, that is for sure.

Mp3man doesn't roll off the tongue as well. They could call it the FLACman. Or WAVman.

This is my phone with an older version of Android and minus the ability to call people.
Literally, I have a brand new Sony phone will all the same codecs and support and such, but granted less space.
