No sense ruining your kids good time by speaking to the real issues.
That's all.

I wish I could come up with something more profound or nuanced, but all I can say is that it's a horrible situation and my prayers go out to France and any victims from this.

I keep seeing people say Muslims need to do more. What exactly? Scores of Muslims and Muslim groups speak out all of the time and are usually completely ignored. Do people want them to take up arms?
When I see things like this happen and the insane comments, I really wish people spent more time looking into history and foreign affairs. Perhaps they might actually understand cause and effect in this situation.

At the time being, here's what I know from listening to the radio:
there are two separate hostage situations, one involving the Kouachi brothers, who have at least one hostage, the manager of the business where the brothers are holed up and the other in Vincennes involving Amedy Coulibaly, the gunman who killed a policewoman yesterday, in a kosher market, who has at least five hostages including a woman with a small baby and is armed with two freaking kalachnikov rifles. It is now known that all three men are linked as they were in the same jihadist group. There are reports of two dead in the Coulibaly situations but they are unconfirmed.
In good news, the wounded survivors of the Charlie Hebdo attack are now all safe. Those whose injuries were minor were cleared to leave the hospital and those with grievous injuries are no longer at risk of dying.

I literally just heard that shots are being fired in the Kouachi situation and grenades were thrown.
Edit: smoke is apparently coming out of the building, probably due to smoke grenades.
Edit 2: members of either the GIGN or the Raid or both appear to be entering the building. Of course, people are speculating that they are assaulting the building.

In the Vincennes hostage situation, 4 explosions (presumably flash grenades as bright lights came with them) have just been heard and policemen are entering the supermarket.

It is confirmed that the Kouachi brothers were killed in the assault. F***, I really didn't want them to have a chance to become martyrs. Fortunately, the hostage is safe and sound.
The assault on the Vincennes supermarket appears to be over as well. Waiting for more info. All I know is that ambulances are leaving, no idea if it's for the hostages, the hostage taker or policemen.
Edit: Coulibaly is dead as well.
Edit 2: Turns out Coulibaly's death is NOT confirmed. A dozen of hostages have been freed.
Edit 3: NOW it's confirmed.
Edit 4: There are reports of at least four dead hostages in Vincennes. F*** F*** F*** F*** F***.

It sounds as if the situation is over and all the hostages are alive.

Since the shooting, mosques across France have been getting firebombed Terrible. I haven't heard that being reported in the U.S. media. Shocker CBS has also been referring to Charlie Hebdo as "the magazine."

Forget that, they're the first ones killed by extremists. Their deaths are ignored. I personally wish the people so angry at Muslims would go after Boko Haram. At least their hate would help the whole world. Especially West Africa.

It sounds as if the situation is over and all the hostages are alive. I may have spoken too soon. There are now conflicting reports now as to whether some of the hostages were killed

You guys are right on about who most of the victims of extremism are: members of the extremists' clan/ethnicity/whatever grouping. In the case of Islamic extremism, the vast majority of their victims are Islamic people. Stuff like this builds distrust between Western nations and Islamic people, which is just what the extremists are banking on; the less we play into their hands like that, the better.
There's just nothing good about any of this. Hopefully the reports of some of the hostages being dead aren't true, but it's just an awful story all around, regardless.

To bring almost a humourous and wrestling bend to it, basically Michael Cole represents the muslims, and Chris Jericho represents the critics. TALK ABOUT YOUR HATE FOR THIS! We are talking about our hate for this. MORE!

Apparently no hostages were killed during the raid, and the two terrorists in the industrial center never new the other one person was in the building, hiding and informing the police by telephone.

Shocker 'Cuz, in Murica, when bad things happen to Muslims, it's a-okay. Seriously, though, this is all deplorable. I would have not wanted a dead hostage, but alas, that did not happen.
