I enjoyed it in theaters. I didn't enjoy it as much the second time I watched it, which was about a month or so ago. It's not bad, but it wasn't as good as I remembered it.
I realize Nero and Spock (from the last movie) going through the black hole and changing the past basically hit the reset button for the entire universe. With that out of the way, it still bothers me how different Khan is in this movie. I think Cumberbatch would have made a great Star Trek villain, but I'm not sure he needed to be Khan. However, this movie pretty much demands that the villain be Khan as the entire climax is basically Wrath of Khan with Kirk and Spock switching roles. If the villain is not Khan, then the filmmakers would be accused of ripping off the ending of Wrath of Khan. Since the villain IS Khan, then it's not so much a rip-off as an homage or reference. Also, if the villain is not Khan, then they would have had to re-work the scene where the two Spocks communicate with each other.
Overall, it's not a bad movie. It's just kind of frustrating. I would have preferred a more fresh movie. I loved the first reboot. Looking back, I wish they had given us newer, more fresh ideas instead of giving us a movie closely linked to Wrath of Khan.

One would have expected this movie to deal a bit more with the aftermath of VULCAN BEING DESTROYED!

Missing William Shatner's and Ricardo Montalban's epic over acting.

Missing William Shatner's and Ricardo Montalban's epic over acting. I never realized it until I listened to the director's commentary for Star Trek II, but not once were Shatner and Montalban in the same room. They were always just acting at the screen, which obviously didn't contain the other actor.

I really liked it... to be fair, I never was that into the original flicks.

I mean, I can appreciate a director wanting to adapt a popular story to his rebooted franchise, but I too would've preferred a completely original story. They did so well with Nero and Spock having to witness his planet be destroyed (i'm assuming that's original as well; I'm not too familiar with Star Trek) and it's just rather underwhelming.

Vulcan, one of the most important members of the Federation, being destroyed is one of the biggest changes in this universe. The implications of what that means for the timeline going forward should be immeasurable.
