"Preliminary information indicates the man is the father of a patient and is distraught," the statement said. The sheriff's office was sending its high-risk operation unit to the scene.
KHOU reporter Tim Wetzel tweeted that a hospital spokeswoman said the medical center was closed and the situation was "being assessed."
A supervisor at the county's emergency dispatch center told The Associated Press the situation was happening in the critical care unit and began around 7 p.m.
