Jesus, I think so people are really missing the point. Al Pacino? Christopher Lloyd?
Some people that are known for one character:
Paul Reubens - Pee Wee Herman
Jim Varney - Ernest

I'd say two off the top of my head: 1) Heath Ledger as The Joker (though I thought he was good as Mel Gibsons son in The Patriot) No, I think you have to give him Brokeback Mountain as well. He'll be remembered for that too.

Although an argument could be made for Christopher Lloyd. Even though I'm a big fan of most of his work (Angels in the Outfield, Dennis The Menace, Taxi, etc.) I will admit that shown a picture of him. Most people will think of Doc Brown. James Vanderbeak will always be Dawson. Jason Biggs will always be the guy who banged a pie.

Mellisa Joan Hart as Sabrina your pic isn't working but I'm going to assume it's Clarissa. And to be honest. We didn't get that show here until after Sabrina was on. I'm aware there are people who remember her as Clarissa but I'd say she's more instantly recognizable as Sabrina. Hell she even reprised the role in the Halloween episode of her new show.

Viggo Mortensen, Dominic Monaghan, and Billy Boyd will probably always be first and foremost Aragorn, Merry, and Pippen for most people. Possibly Elijah Wood for Frodo as well. Um, you all, everybody? (Though I heavily think of him as a teen alongside Patricia Routledge as well, which reminds me to add...) P. Routledge as Hyacinth and... Anyone from Gilligan's Island (despite Tina Louise's best and most bitter, petty efforts) Almost anyone from Laverne & Shirley I'll give you the Al Bundy one earlier, but Modern Family is that good, that I am seeing him as Jay just as well. Diana Rigg as Emma Peel Valerie Harper as Rhoda J(i)m J. Bullock = Monroe Barbara Eden = Jeannie I'd mention Ted Knight and Ted Baxter, but there's also Too Close for Comfort, Caddyshack, and more to consider. Danny Dark = Superman William Woodson = Superfriends announcer (he HAS appeared on sitcoms and other cartoons, infamously being J. Jonah Jameson AND Namor on Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends)

Jean Stapleton was forever known as Edith Bunker, and it was really hard for her to get serious roles because all people ever wanted her to do was "be the dingbat".

Viggo has a ton of roles now that offset him being seen as just Aragorn, also.

Maybe she could do something about that. Perhaps she could be a regular on a show that 18 million people watch each week.

wayne knight was also dennis nedry from jurassic park I know that. But the point of the thread is if I put up a pic of Wayne Night you'd probably think of Newman first. Kinda like if I post this guy. You'll probably think of Winston from Ghosbusters first. Despite the fact that He's in the Crow and the Warden in OZ. He'll always be Warden Glenn to me...it was Warden Glenn, right? The Warden from Oz, whatever.

Viggo has a ton of roles now that offset him being seen as just Aragorn, also. As I understand it the OP wasn't asking us to name actors who did one popular role and nothing else, but actors whose most popular role vastly outstrips the rest. Viggo has had a very solid career both before and after LOTR, Aragorn is by far his most well-known role.

Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso
Nothing against Johnny Cade, but he's stuck as Daniel-san.

Sherman Hemsley is George Jefferson. Even on Amen, he was pretty much George Jefferson as a reverend.

Betty White as Betty White, if that makes any sense. It evolves over time, but the general idea remains.
Richard Dawson as Richard Dawson, the host of Family Feud. Yes I think that eclipsed Hogan's Heroes.
