They definitely need to look at their safety procedures. I get that sometimes stuff happens that nobody can predict, and we don't know the cause of this yet, but they need to be seen to be doing something.
As bad as this is, can you imagine what it would have been like if the plane came down a few seconds earlier and hit the buildings?

I think that this is partly a byproduct of every airline having an aging fleet. Some airlines are better at keeping up maintenance on 30-50+ year old airplanes. I think that some of the Southeast Asian airlines are having real issues with that now.

What's creepy, aside from knowing half the people on that plane you are watching are about to die, is something similar happened several decades ago in Washington DC. An Air Florida plane did not turn on its deicer in low tempatures at Wahington National and crashed into the Potomic upon take off. Two people on a bridge over the Potomic were killed by the landing gear as the plane crashed.
