Please move if in the wrong place...
Was the XFL fixed at all?
Always heard about it, I'd love to watch the season sometime, but yeah was it at all fixed?, were there rumours back in the day?
What were the rules and how we're they diff to NFL (if at all)?
I hope the season will be available on the WWE Network one day.
I'd love to watch it.
Was there only one season?

No, it wasn't fixed. Yes, rumours abounded it was. Different rules? A football guy can go more in-depth, but a couple were no coin toss, instead they had a scramble and no fair catch rule.
Yes, only one season.

Ah ok, yeah I meant just the gist of rules on how to play the overall game, same premise then yeah?, 4 attempts for 10 yds?
I should probably watch a game, I'm sure they're on YouTube or something.

Yeaaaaaaah, it was still football. They are on Youtube, go watch, it's just football with some different rules than what the NFL has, not sure what you think it might be?

It was the same game as NFL, with a few different rules. No extra points after TD's, no halo for kick/punt returners, college overtime rules, and some other minor things.
Mostly, it was just bad football, since all the good players were in the NFL, it had the stigma as the reject's league.

They only had 8 Teams. My little league baseball association had more teams then that.
Birmingham Thunderbolts
Chicago Enforcers
Las Vegas Outlaws
Los Angeles Xtreme
Memphis Maniax
New York/New Jersey Hitmen
Orlando Rage
San Francisco Demons

I remember there was a push to get people to demand their local paper cover the games in their sports section and they had one overtime game that did good ratings. Players also got to put nicknames on their Jersey.

I watched a couple of the games. I'm not a fan of football so I didn't really get into it.

Hard to believe the league aired its first game 14 years ago yesterday. I still have my three XFL hats: logo, NY/NJ Hitmen, and Chicago Enforcers. My high school guidance counselor's husband was an Enforcers QB.
People seem to forget that the NFL did copy the league's overhead hanging camera. And didn't the league start putting cameras in the team locker rooms a season or two ago? Where did we see that before? Oh yeah, the XFL. And the XFL did show that Pac Bell Park could be used for football--until recently college football's Emerald Bowl took place there.

To quote Kevin Nash they went half pregnant. They didn't go full sports entertainment and have angles and promos but they didn't go full sport either. So you ended up with a subpar product with Jim Ross calling it as JR the announcer from Raw as opposed to the guy who used to call college football. The whole thing was a mess.

One of my good friends played for Birmingham. I asked him about the structure of the games once, and he said that it took a bit to get used to because it was more steeped in 'entertainment' than actual sports like the NFL was (he played a couple of years there). He also said that he met Vince McMahon once and that he was perhaps the most intimidating person he'd ever met. Crazy, especially coming from a football player. LOL. He also said that he was hoping the XFL could help him get back into one of the more prominent leagues, but it didn't happen. Pretty cool to get some first-hand insight from someone who was actually there.

Mostly, it was just bad football, since all the good players were in the NFL, it had the stigma as the reject's league. I think there was still a halo rule, but there was no fair catch. If memory serves, on one of the first punts in the league a player was flagged for tackling the returner without giving him a halo. Then announcers sounded sheepish having to explain that there was a halo, because up to that point, the whole tone of the broadcast was emphasizing how 'smash-mouth' the football action was. They even touted how there was no fair catch several times before that flag.
