He was one of my favourite wrestlers in 2002-03, and still someone I enjoyed watching as recently as 2012. Today I forget he exists on a weekly basis. Very sad end to a career filled with highlights. His feud with Jericho in '09 was superb throughout, but that was kind of the beginning of the end in hindsight.

That is a shame. A legend like him deserved a send off.
It is a shame that this thread got trolled by his haters.
Mysterio doesnt deserve any "Good riddance" comments.

I'm always surprised when Mysterio seems to attract so much hate.
The guy was brilliant, over like a madman, and sold merchandise by the shitload.
Makes me wish he had joined WWE earlier than he did. He should have joined them in 1999 when WCW foolishly suggested he lose his mask.

During the last few years of his run I had grown really tired of him, but Rey was the guy who got me to start watching WCW and the first several years of his WWE run were amazing. I was so excited when he signed in 02 and he had great matches for years. One of the best ever.

I will always look fondly on Rey for being in the funniest, most absurd, but hilarious feud in wrestling history
Eddie vs Rey, feuding over Dominic.

All you people hating need to realize without him the fast paced balls to wall go all out matches wouldn't have been mainstream without guys like Rey. The only problems I had with Rey was overexposure and the Eddie exploitation.

I think this may be his first indy date - Rey Mysterio will be appearing for 4 Front Wrestling in Swindon, England on July 19th.

I like that Rey is only a foot taller than his child.

1997 Raven doesn't know whether he's Nirvana, Pearl Jam or Alice N Chains. that's because 1997 Raven was f***ing awesome.

I like that Rey is only a foot taller than his child. That was in 2005. They were the same height in 2010 for the best Birthday ever segment, so Dominik is definitely much taller now.

I've never liked Rey but this is a sad way for his incredible career to end. Maybe he'll be HOF next year.

Now I never have to watch guys bump around for him again like ragdolls while he flips and jumps around.

Had WWE bothered to create a cruiserweight division and build it around Rey, he'd have been fine. I feel much of the hostility towards him comes from fans who, perhaps not unreasonably, couldn't suspend disbelief when he was wrestling guys twice his size.

I like Mysterio. I think back to the last time he was relevant, which was when he was WWE Champion for about an hour. Would have been interesting to have seen him fight Punk at Summerslam instead of Cena, and they had recently been feuding before Punk's push too so it'd have made sense.

The idea that custody of a kid could be solved in a ladder match is one of the funniest ideas ever.

I was in Wal-Mart yesterday (I know, ugh) and walking to the checkout I couldn't help but overhear a young Hispanic kid begging his mom for a Rey Mysterio T-shirt.
Easy to forget how important a guy like Rey is to a generation or two of youngsters.
I hope he decides to retire his trunks while he can still walk, but best wishes for his future in every way.

From a historical perspective, Rey Mysterio should be considered an all-time great and important figure in wrestling. Frankly, no other masked luchador before or after Rey Mysterio has had as much impact to mainstream U.S. wrestling. He was arguably the centerpiece of the WCW Cruiserweight division during the early Nitro years. He went on to have incredible success in WWE. He helped build the SmackDown brand and (with Eddie Guerrero) expanded viewership with Latinos. He was also among the top merchandise sellers throughout his run. He won both world championships in WWE. He has had a career of incredible matches.

It's a shame that really good Jericho feud years back couldn't have been his swan song. That would've been a good note to leave on.
