That's what happens in an area that has no money and old buildings. They collect....whatever it is that place has collected.

I did not know there was place called Pontiac. Always thought that was a stadium sponsor. Like Ford Field. Yep, and it's a shit hole that had to choose whether to drop their fire or police department. I think they chose fire because there's too much crime. Say what you will, about Detroit, but I live here and have been watching the city change for the better, slowly but surely. So...what happens if there is a fire?

I think some of the surrounding cities help and volunteers, of course. It's not that big of a city.

This thread seems to be taking a turn toward the political. The Silverdome looks like that because the roof (an inflatable Teflon type) collapsed 2 years ago after the joke owners didn't do any maintenance on it. Before that, it was apparently still hosting an event or two. Football stadiums with no football team usual become parking lots.

That's a shame. I had read a number of years back someone won an auction for the stadium for like 500,000 USD (Maybe below that) and had fixed the problems running I believe soccer matches there? That wasn't that long ago either it was definitely within the past 10 years. Don't know what they're doing with it now but in those pictures it looks like you'd need at least a few million dollars to get the place running again and with Detroit being the worst major city in America I can't see anyone fixing the place up and running significant events from it (Profitable ones at least) WWE probably should have looked into buying it for a physical WWE Hall Of Fame site with the occasional wrestling event. Could have been cool but again being in Detroit means not a whole lot of profit. I had a number like 15K in mind, but yours is probably closer to correct. It was wicked, wicked, wicked cheap.

Per wikipedia it was like 583k and it was apparently running shows in 2011. Whoever was running it is damn lucky that roof (and especially the cables that did all that damage) did not collapse when there were people in the building, as it was just two years later in 2013 that that happened. ---edit---- Drone footage of the building after the roof collapse here. news.yahoo.com/video/drone-footage-shows-pontiac-silverdome-021132699.htmlMakes it a little more eery taking it all in like this.

If you visit it and hear clicks, you better run! Running is the worst thing to do around clickers... Not if you run to a more defendable position where you can throw molotov cocktails at them.
