Were they implying that the motorcycle cop's mom wanted to f*** him, or was I reading too much into that scene?

I got that feeling too. I don't think anything's happened to Collin's character except being shot none of the shots for next week say "killed" and in the over all trailer there are lots of scenes with him in it that haven't happened yet. Anyhow I think so far he's the only real likeable person of the lead characters

Even though this show is fictional, I am not surprised that Taylor Kitsch's character's sketchy mother lives out in the desert.

{Spoiler}I guess Ray didn't rub his hands together. Otherwise, Hostage Taking Bird Birdman wouldn't have taken such an issue with him.

Give them a writing Emmy right now if they can explain how a guy can live through two direct shotgun blasts

The white wall behind Ray should have looked like a Jackson Pollock after the first blast...but nothing.

You know, take away some cursing and gratuitous teats, and this is like one of those CBS cop shows. I think I can even see the CBS logo in the corner.
And Rachel McAdams might be the least threatening person on Earth, yet they are trying to make her into some kind of bad ass.

That opening was awesome.
I can't really explain it, but I'm pretty hooked on this show without really being into it.

I really liked both the second and third episodes. I am really starting to get invested into all the characters now. My problem with the first episode is they could have covered the first 58 minutes of the episode in a music montage showing the characters histories and motivations before the opening credits, and still would have accomplished the exact same thing. I love Vaughns performance. My god I didn't realize he had it in him as a dramatic actor. He doesn't need to say anything and yet you know by a look that he is boiling up inside and is soon about to go all out mobster boss again the more his world starts untangling. I love that each character represents a different vice or something morally wrong, similar to how Rust and Hart were in the first season, and how they respond and react to eachother. This is easily, easily, the best I have ever seen Taylor Kitsch on screen. I have never got him before now. He has always come across as one of those forcefed HollyWood action hero leading man guys, but with the right direction, character and look I finally get him. Woodrugh has become a very interesting character to me, and I like how he is fighting an inner turmoil and argument with his sexuality, probably more we will find out later. Racchel McAdams owns the screen. I loved her already, just absolutely beautiful, but I think she gets the character she has been given and has got the best out out of it so far. I like her as a strong woman leading character and I think in a world (shared in the same world as the first season obviously) where woman are mistreated (I think a theme of reflecting what it is like in real life, still a mans world unfortunately and less common ground than perceived) and are the lowest common denominator, but Antigone is the one fighting for them. Ray is the one I had most trouble with getting into these 3 episodes, but I understand him now as a guy who tries desperately to do what he feels is right, but his lack of morals just leads him to do it in the most f***ed up and self harming way possible to him and those around him (the Jimmy McNulty syndrome, one of my all time favorite characters). I want the guy to have a happy ending, but I know in essence of who he is that isn't going to happen and I feel that is exactly how they wanted us to feel. However, I do feel Nic Pizzolatto has taken a massive fall in his writing. The differences are glaring and some out of place lines really take me out of the great acting and direction at points. 70% of it is still decent - good, but there are those moments where I think "god, there was a way that scene could have gone/been said better". Metz was a welcome change to Lin as a director in the third episode. Lin was good but he is only good for specific things, and this is a guy who loves Fast5 and Furiou6. No one will touch Fukunaga as a director of this season, and it was a positive to have his consistent voice through all the episodes last season, they should have had one director only for this season as well. It still feels like True Detective to me now. They have kept the bare bones of what it represents (the worst in the human species psyche) and motifs/familiar locations to the first (opening credits, the very similar framed car scenes, tone setting background music). The skin and muscle of the show is a complete change, without a doubt. I feel that they want us to realize the contrast between Louisiana (the woods, vast wilderness, an unknown enemy broken down towns) while California is a place that is filled with lights and people, and yet is vapid and superfluous. On the surface everyone wears their masks in the fame, fashion and film narcisism culture of Cali, yet everything crumbles within. I think that is what he is trying to say. Yet it is very different to season one, but I feel its meant to be, that the evil of men lives everywhere no matter how many lights do or don't consume a city or town. Its nowhere near to the first season, s1 is up there on its own for me as one of the if not the best tv season ever for any show (certainly top 5), but I am really really getting into this story now and I want to know who the killer is. Sorry guys didn't mean for this to be dissertation length....

Cute shootout that's weighed down by the primary plot line being predictable and unoriginal. Done with this as there are too many options available in today's landscape to keep wasting time.

Like I said on Twitter, we went from a talky film noir and Seymon making threats and racist insults for fourty five minutes, then "BLOW UP A BUNCH OF SHIT AND SHOOT EVERYTHING! We're Michael Bay in this bitch! OK, back to brooding... "

I am holding on by a thread, brother jack dudes.
I watched the first episode of S1 the other day, and even though I knew what was going to happen, it still made me want to watch more. This season, I don't care at all about anyone involved so far.
