Is that the real Mean Gene? He doesn't have a confirmed mark by his name.

Is that the real Mean Gene? He doesn't have a confirmed mark by his name. I mean, WWE follows him. Maybe Gene-o Machino just never went through the trouble of getting the check mark. He's posted tons of things before that would lead me to believe it's him, including pics.

I'll be honest, I thought he passed not too long after killing that guy. Had to be an extremely rough time for his family but hopefully this brings them some peace.

I think he's been in an extremely private and guarded nursing home since the incident, as a way to drop out of any and all public eye, considering he was somewhat of a celebrity in parts of Minnesota.

Not unexpected. He had lived in a nursing home for many years. Alzheimer's disease is an horrible thing, thankfully, breakthroughs are happening and soon enough there may be a cure.
There's two sides to every story. The winners write history, so history will remember that Verne Gagne was a dinosaur whom evolution passed by. But looking at things from another perspective, Verne was a man of principles, who stood by his values until the bitter end. Lesser men wouldn't have. He was a great wrestler in his day, a main eventer everywhere he went, but mostly, the man who made Minnesotan pro wrestling famous and a hot bed for amazing talent to this day.
Today, the wrestling world mourns ones of its founding fathers.
RIP, Laverne Clarence Gagne, world champion, trainer, promoter.
Thank you for giving Montreal a world champion, and say hello to Edouard and Mad Dog, sir. This wrestling fan salutes you.

I too thought he passed a while ago. It's sad, but I don't think his last few years were much to live for anyway.

WWE HALL OF FAMER, AWA FOUNDER VERNE GAGNE PASSES AWAY by Mike Johnson @ 11:07 PM on 4/27/2015
Former AWA founder and ten time AWA World Heavyweight champion Verne Gagne, who was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005, passed away earlier today, PWInsider.com has learned. He was 86 years old.
We are awaiting further details but wish to express our deepest condolences to the Gagne family, their friends and obviously Verne's fans.
I'll have more on Gagne and his career as soon as possible.

Why does everyone always assume word of someone dying is a joke? I know they don't want to believe it, but it's time to come up with something better.
R.I.P. Verne-I enjoyed the AWA when others felt it was in a tailspin, we wouldn't have the great memories without him

AWA will always be right up there with WWF and NWA to me. It was the best time to be a kid and a wrestling fan.
I'm saddened by the death of Vern Gange, the man who made 4pm special.
