There was a string of house shows shortly before Macho Man was "reinstated" by Jack Tunney to further his feud with Jake Roberts, where he operated under a mask and called himself "Mr. Madness". There's even a promo on Youtube with him and Hacksaw where Macho is completely pixelated!
Anyone else remember this?

It was something done on some live events in the fall of 1991 before Savage was reinstated and if memory serves it might have even been done briefly after he was reinstated.

Oh man, I love that promo with Hacksaw where Savage is pixelated. After Hacksaw finishes speaking, Savage does some talking with his regular voice intact, and the fact that they left the most distinctive voice in wrestling history unchanged while they edit his appearance is one of my favorite storyline quirks of all time.
I'm pretty sure the promo was against Dibiase, because I remember him doing a response to that specific promo, basically saying "I know who you are, you're not fooling anyone and aren't supposed to wrestle" without mentioning Savage by name. Super underrated angle.

And even with pixelation, you're pixelising literally THE LOUDEST CLOTHED GUY in wrestling possibly EVER. F***ing hell, that neon cowboy gear could be seen from space, what are a few pixels going to hide? So yeah... sounds like Savage, looks like Savage... Maybe it's Jim Powers?

It's too bad we never got the Mr. Madness/Mr. America/Juan Cena teamup.

There was apparently during this period where Savage wrestled with a mask on. I'm very curious to see what that looked like, but there's apparently no info on this.
Reminds me of the Machines when it was very clear that one of them was Andre, although Gorilla Monsoon said it wasn't to Heenan's protests.
That in turn reminds me of a guy I knew in high school who truly believed that Mr. America wasn't Hulk Hogan, since Hulk would never lie. I never found out if he was crushed by the truth, since we graduated before the reveal if I recall correctly.

My only regret is that Mr. Madness never beat Ric Flair to become the self-proclaimed "Real World's Champion"
