Austin's motivation for teaming up with Triple H was a favorite of mine, "If someone is so sick and twisted that they try to kill you wouldn't you want them on your side?" Yes I would actually. 2001 heel Austin is one of those things I didn't like at the time because I was just a kid who hated all the heels, but absolutely love now.

"July 17, 2011, will be the most historic day not only in the career of CM Punk, it's going to be a historic day for the WWE as a whole. Not only is July 17 the second annual Money in the Bank ladder match PPV, it's the night I defeat John Cena for the WWE championship. Now here's that honesty I was talking about, that honesty that's probably gotten me in trouble more times than I'd like to admit, the brutal honesty I'm know for; July 17 is the day my contract with World Wrestling Entertainment comes to an end. That means when the clock strikes midnight, 17 becomes 18, Sunday bleeds into Monday -- I'm leaving. And trust me when I tell you, I am leaving with the WWE championship."

(Heel) Edge and JBL were both willing to do ANYTHING to get the WWE/WHC Title, which help put over how important the belts were supposed to be.

Most worked shoots shit all over that part which is why they usually fail.

I think Max Landis summed it up perfectly when he did the career character motivation of HHH which is basically prove you're better than all the wrestlers that people love through any means necessary because you're not as good as those guys no matter how hard you try.

Raven - Had a bad childhood and because of that developed a skewed view of the world. Spent his life with one goal, which was to get revenge on a society that he felt had wronged him, and in his mind Tommy Dreamer was the embodiement of that society.

Jeff Jarrett- wanting to win titles to help his country music career get off the ground. ...considering how well "With My Baby Tonight" sold? Can't really blame him. Truth be told, for something that seemed kind of hokey and far-fetched at the time, 20 years later appearing on WWE television to gain visibility for a music career is totally something that someone would do. In a post-American Idol, post-America's Got Talent, post-Viral, post-Reality Show world that's seen wrestlers use sports entertainment to catapult them into credible and downright mega-successful acting careers on television and in cinemas, why wouldn't a music career transcend the squared circle as well? Yes, J-E-DOUBLE-F ha-ha J-A-DOUBLE-R-E-DOUBLE-T was a gimmick 20 years ahead of its time. Funny how today that seems so much less dated than the guy who beats up women just because.

Bret Hart's promo when he turned on America always stuck with me. The line about "no matter how many times I win, you make me feel like I had lost" is just so fantastic. Such an honest and human statement. Then on top of that he has a 10-15 minute long laundry list of legitimate problems that anyone in his position would be out of their minds over. You can't really blame him for being upset, but you can't help but feel he's being a prick anyways. He's just so exasperated and heartbroken. He's being edged out of the main event picture when he's practically at his peak, has no idea how to remedy the situation but he knows that he's not getting any peace of mind pretending that the American fans are his friends anymore.

Agreed, but it also seems like more of a problem right now- considering how many of the Total Divas released singles last year, you'd think one of them could use it (it was used as a red herring in Miz and Mizdow vs. The Usos, but in-character, Cameron's post-heel turn character absolutely would try that claim.)

Most worked shoots shit all over that part which is why they usually fail. This promo during the Jericho/Punk feud is probably the best worked shoot promo I've ever seen for the same reason. They turned the "best in the world" gimmick into a kayfabe issue, which too many people (looking at you, Ziggler) don't do.

One of my favorites was the convoluted storyline between Khali and Jinder Mahal, where Khali turned heel and did Jinder's bidding because he married Khali's Sister and is extremely wealthy, and he if he didn't, he'd divorce her and they'd be left with nothing.
What makes this hilarious to me is it feels like there was so much thought put into this storyline and it was dropped in literally a week...

It was a worked-shoot that actually sold a match, when they usually just devalue the concept of a match itself. And he never went into "you made me lay down R-Truth, brother!", he just alluded tp not getting the chances he should've. It was the perfect combination of passion and vagueness to strike a chord with those who aren't into reading up on the backstage news. And for the people who are into that stuff, it was such a vindicating feeling, about as much of one as I can recall in my 15-ish years of watching wrestling. He really was the voice of the voiceless at that point.

Luger celebrating like he just won WW2 by landing on the moon after a countout win over Yoko because he didn't have to ride in that damn bus anymore.
Is that why he did it? Must be, no else ever explained.

Kane feuding with Jericho because Jericho spilled coffee on him That was not the motivation, for the feud. There was even a line in the damned feud that outright mocked that concept... The motivation of the feud was that Kane was jealous of how the fans loved Jericho and not him, and since they wouldn't accept Kane like that, he was going to destroy Jericho. Though, I'm sure the hot coffee hurt Kane's skin as well.

Say stuff like "John Cena sucks up to the executives, so he gets a title shot any time he likes when the rest of us have to scrape and fight every day for the barest chance to show we're the best".
