Change the name to "Wrestlenation America" or something. I keep reading "Destination Wrestling" as "Destination Wedding."

Although he said it in his typical loud, obnoxious manner, Vince Russo is spot-on. This move eviscerates Meltzer's claims that DA was disappointed with TNA's sponsors, hence their cancellation. If that claim were true, DA would not be bringing in an even more low-brow, less-sponsor-friendly wrestling promotion; that does not compute. If it does not compute, it's most likely untrue.

If anything, this move demonstrates DA is happy with TNA, and the wrestling business in general, hence expanding on it. Ring Of Honor becomes TNA's opening act, and both promotions grow from the cross-pollination of fans.

I, for one, am hoping for crossover storylines, or even a full-blown invasion angle.

TNA CONFERENCE CALL NOTES

According to several sources who took part in today's TNA conference call with President Dixie Carter discussing the company today with TNA staff and wrestlers, there were no real explanations given regarding the current situation with Destination America.
I was told that it was intimated that due to the nature of the contract between the two parties, neither TNA nor Destination America can publicly comment on their relationship.

Regarding Ring of Honor being added to the Network, the impression given was that TNA, due to their relationship with DA, could not speak on the show until it was announced. I've heard from a few people who didn't buy that explanation and the general belief among those I've spoken to who were on the call is that TNA didn't know about ROH until it was announced.

At times, once the call was opened up for wrestlers to voice their opinions, the call did get very heated. I was told that at one point, Carter told the wrestlers it was up to them to show the world why they were the best in the world and that they "controlled their own destiny." This led to some of the issues of the past year, including the move from Spike and the pay issues being brought up. I was told Carter responded as if the pay issues were in the past.

I heard differing opinions from talents. One said that he felt better now that had the situation had been addressed as talents were no longer "in the dark" and they hoped everyone would get back to performing and not worrying. The talent referred to the call as a big "family blowout" in that now that everyone said their piece, there was a feeling of communication and now everyone could get back to work.

Another called it a "circus call" in that once the floodgates opened for the talent, some of the talents began bringing up personal issues that would have been better dealt with in a one on one forum.

Still another told me it was over 90 minutes of nothing of substance truly being addressed while noting the company was adamant they wanted things kept private while asking talents not to speak out and leak things.

The Dixie Carter "email" story did not come up during the call, I am told.

As we hear more, we'll have additional updates.

Or, alternatively, they brought in something cheaper to try to offset the costs because they like the increased ratings for the network but need cheaper wrestling to fully take advantage of it. Sure, it's possible that they love wrestling and want to expand, but I figure that if they were that thrilled with TNA, they probably wouldn't have cut the breadth of TNA's programming all onto one marathon block (or blindsided them by bringing in a rival promotion to syphon off merch dollars).

I guess we'll know for sure come August or so.

I don't know what it says about us as fanbase but every time TNA is threatening to go toes up, it excites people about wrestling as a a whole product.
Like, on paper I understand people losing their paychecks are a bad thing. People having employment is a GOOD thing, but when TNA threatens to have that heartattack that will send Red Fox to finally join Elizabeth ("THE BIG ONE") people start getting all atwitter about the good that can come from the ashes. Lessons learned, companies fighting to get that number 2 spot. Wasted TNA talent being free to get bookings elsewhere. It's exciting to start armchair booking, and as I said in a previous post that's what being a wrestling fan is about to me. Thinking of the possibilities.

It's wrong of me to root for their demise as we lose a company that at several points in its life SHOULD have been something great, and at times had flashes of it, but still. I just can't get excited for them having one last go every few months. Just go away, and let something new come about that can right your wrongs like f***ing Sam Beckett from Quantum Leap.

I dunno, I'm conflicted.
