XWF failed because Hogan was signed by WWE whilst they were shipping the pilot episode around. Hogan was barely involved. He only there to help out Hart and Brian Knobbs. While that lack of Hogan certainly didn't help them any, the main reason they were never picked up was because they were terrible.

I was at a WWA show in Dublin in 02 or whenever it was. I remember there was some sort of intro promo video or something showing clips from their previous show/s which made it look bad ass, I think there was some sort of cage or ladder match in the package, which obviously wasnt going to happen at this show. It was a show where the commentary was done over a PA for the live audience which was so weird, with the wrestlers acting like they cant hear it. I think Disco might have been one of the commentators. Lawler was meant to be a part of them but he was back in WWE by this stage I think. I seem to remember Jeff Jarrett being involved aswell because I remember seeing his Slapnuts t-shirt for sale and not having a f***ing clue what it was meant to mean. Cant remember if he was even there also but I want to say he was in the main event and I know Stevie Ray was part of it. Bret Hart was really the main attraction as a special guest ref or something in the main and it ended with him locking in a sharpshooter on someone.
Juvi was there as "The Juice" and I remember during his promo the crowd breaking into a "Rocky! Rocky!" chant as if Rock was going to show up which he encouraged which I thought was just really weird, like *Yeah, cheer that mega famous superstar who I'm ripping off who is infinitely bigger than I will ever be". He was doing that in WCW too right? Because most people didnt get WCW here and were scratching their heads at his gimmick. In a similar fashion I remember Lenny and Lodi had a match and again most people didn't know them but the name Lodi got quite the snigger as that word used to be kid-slang for shit here, as in literal feces (I say used to as I havn't heard it since the 90s apart from this show). And in a hilariously Irish incident Norman Smiley was introduced before he emerged from the curtain and when they said he was from the UK everyone started booing until he came out and everyone realised he was black and the booing immediately died down so as not to seem racist!

XWF 1 is on YouTube. I'm 3 minutes in, and the camera guy is going bonkers with the pan-ins for Hulk Hogan ripping his shirt off. So goofy. Pretty impressive production, though. It's basically early TNA. Lawler teaming with Schiavone commentating together is a bit surreal, too. As is seeing Bobby Heenan manage Mr. Perfect in the 2000s!

Oh, and Dusty's Turnbuckle Championship Wrestling. It started small, before the demise of WCW, but once that happened, they started using a lot of ex-WCW and ECW guys and were at one point even eyeing a possible PPV show. Plus you got Dusty not paying the talent towards the end. Heard many a story about Dusty telling people they would get paid after the show, then he would leave right after intermission.

The xwf pretty much looked like a grim warning of what was to come to tna during the hogan/bischoff era.
