Justin Credible became ECW Champion in the wake of several of ECW's stars leaving. ECW was on the decline and wouldn't really last another full year. Justin Credible was great in 1998 and 1999 when he was perhaps the number two heel and then when he teamed with Lance Storm as the Impact Players.

Justin was great. I don't understand the hate that he gets. He had a proper rise, having tremendous undercard matches with jerry lynn and the great sasuke. He was a heat magnet because of how much of a scumbag his character was. He was over as a performer, he just wasn't a draw, as ECW wasn't a draw anymore. His gimmick was a product of the 90's, as ECW was, but he was over and could perform in the ring.

He was a great heel and you hated him. The crowds wanted to see him lose, not because of his abilities, but his character was a jerk. You wanted someone to knock him down a peg. When he was the champion was a bad time for ECW. Most of the talent were either in WWF/WCW or in the process of moving to them.

I get why they did what they did, but I think a legit run with Dreamer wouldn't have been the worst thing ever.

I get why they did it later on, just never bought him as the main heel for the brand, maybe as TV champ but not the top guy.

He's probably my least favorite original ECW champion with the exception Dreamer. I just could never buy the guy as the top guy. He was an okay wrestler and that was about it. He had one of the most uninteresting and generic looks you could ever find. He looked like just about every backyard wrestler from around that time. And I hated that f***ing name. That said, I liked him alright when he was in X Factor. That was the right fit for him, stick him with another sleezy looking dude. I also liked him with Storm although I hardly remember that much from memory. He just stood out the wrong way as a singles' guy. PJ Polaco is a far better wrestling name too. I also think he's a very knowledgeable wrestling mind. Agreed with all of this. Seems like a good dude, and he was a solid hand in the ring. But I couldn't give less of a f*** about 'ECW superstar/champion Justin Credible'.

He's capable but as far as him ever getting the same champ recognition as previous ECW champions, it wasn't going to happen for him. He was a guy that understood his role and those are guys you can keep around as a regular guy but top champ no.

His first year is also some great heel work. His feuds with The Great Sasuke and Mikey Whipwreck and the original Dreamer feud (early '98, NOT the stairway-to-hell feud) were all very, very good.

I met Justin Credible recently. He seems like a stand up guy, but he even admitted that he was ECW champion because of all the talent being snatched up.
He was the best choice at the time, though I don't really see him being a heavyweight in the WWE.

He played the part well and was a great wrestler. He fit the "trashy ECW style" well and looked the part.

I didn't watch ECW regularly until 1999, so I think that helps me in terms of buying into Credible, because I always did. I didn't even know he was Alpo Montoya or anything like that. It was definitely a case of "who's left?" but I dug his matches as champion and thought he was a good slimy heel who was tougher than you wanted to admit.

I think he was a decent champion at a time they had a rapidly dwindling pool of talent. This I think may have been when Vince was already giving Heyman financial assistance and the company was in rough waters.

The fact that RVD never won the World Title in the original ECW is honestly one of the biggest shames about ECW ending when it did.

He came in and fans were very "You've given us so much Paul E....we'll go with you on this for a bit." He was awesome with Lance Storm. The Impact Players were better than Rated RKO could ever be. Then Lance left and Justin became World champion. Anyhoo.... The Impact Players are legit one of my favorite tag teams ever. Then again, I'm a pretty big mark in general for ECW's contributions to tag team wrestling. Minus The Gangstas.

Candido/Storm > Credible/Storm

I can tell what he wasn't as champion.
Incredible.
I'll see myself out.
I would have went with Corino honestly.
