Addo-Carr in for a second try, and now it’s just icing on the cake for the Storm.

Clive Churchill Medal for man of the match goes to Billy Slater, capping off a great comeback year after a horror run of shoulder injuries.
Becomes only the second player to win the Churchill Medal twice, after Canberra legend Bradley Clyde in 1989 and 1991.

Gold Coast have appointed Stewart Dew as head coach. Dew since retiring as player in 2009 has been assistant coach mostly at Sydney.
Hawthorn coach Alistair Clarkson has seen a few of his former assistants get head coaching jobs (funfact: the last two Premiership coaches were previously Clarkson assistants) .. but Dew will become the first head coach who was actually coached by Clarkson (as head coach, not counting when Clarkson was an assistant at Port Adelaide and St Kilda)
Of course I have to get a bit self indulgent.. Dew will always have a place in my heart for when he and Cyril Rioli had that awesome 5 minutes during the 2008 Grand Final that turned the game on its head.
Good Luck to Dew. Hopefully he can turn that turd into chocolate 🍫
Note: John Barker was also coached by Clarkson at the end of his playing career. But he was only a caretaker coach of Carlton after Mick Malthouse was sacked so I'm not counting it.

Oh hey, it turns out that footy season isn't over just yet, we got us a bit of a rugby league World Cup happening in a few weeks. Been a bit of an on again/off again project over the years based on the largely un-competitive nature of the tournament outside of matches between superpowers Australia, New Zealand and England. Like, this is a tournament that has had winning margins literally in the hundreds...

Sorry for not covering trade period as extensively as SEN 1116.
Must mention though Carlton today have delisted 2008 Rising Star winner Rhys Palmer (who was playing for Fremantle at the time). Carlton have become the third club to send him on his way since winning the award. Now I have mentioned it before but he is the reason I think they should change the name of the Rising Star award to something like Rookie of the Year. Because it becomes a bit of joke when the Rising Star does not become a star. And the year he won it the two players below him were Cyril Rioli (four time premiership winner, Norm Smith medalist, a I’m being biased .. sue me... a gawd damn superstar) and Trent Cotchin (premiership captain, Brownlow medalist.. a star). While Palmer .. to reuse a joke.. is Homer Simpson’s yearbook entry
So I have to laugh at today’s news.

As a Sydneysider I don't know my VFL/AFL history well enough to name many, Ron Barassi maybe?

Richmond have suspended Nathan Broad for the first three matches of the 2018 season.
He was the owner of the premiership medal that was featured around the neck of a topless woman. The suspension is for actually taking the picture and circulating it without the women’s permission.
Yes she is a stripper, but it’s still shitty of Broad to do this.

Cooper Cronk has announced his retirement from representative rugby league after winning the World Cup with Australia last weekend. This is good news and bad news for New South Wales State Of Origin... Good news, both Cronk and Johnathan Thurston won't be in the Queensland team from now on. Bad news, Queensland are like f***ing HYDRA with their playmakers. Retire one, and two are ready to take its place.

New seasons coming up. Hoping to get my 2018 AFL season predictions out next weekend .. it’s a long weekend in Victoria so will have some time to think some up.
Anyway let’s see how I did last year:
- The Grand Final will played between GWS and Sydney.. with Sydney finally getting there monies with their recruits and winning the premiership .. yeah seems obvious. No one is really standing out.
Nope, neither team made the GF
- winner of the Brownlow: Marcus Bontinpelli (Bulldogs)
Nope.
- The Bulldogs meanwhile will have the Premiership hangover ... it won't be as bad as Hawthorn in 09 or the Crows in 99. They will make the 8 at least, but that could still lead to a repeat of 2016. But I think other teams will wise up.
Yes, and nope on making the 8. Another team did rise though.
- My team however Hawthorn,, well I think they are still a few years away from being dominant again. They gained some good recruits, but lost some experienced players, and the younger players are still developing. They will make the 8, but I'm seeing a repeat of last year.
Didn’t make 8 .. so nope.
- Players to retire this year: Luke Hodge, Gary Ablett (if he gets another big injury), Nick Reidwoldt, and Bob Murphy
Luke Hodge.. a yes, then a no. Gary Ablett nope. Saint Nick yep, Bob yep.
- Coach most likely to be sacked before the end of the season: Ken Hinkley (Port)
Nope.
- Team on the big rise: St Kilda
Nope. Did rise a little. But definitely not the big improvers of that 2017
- Going Down: in combination with the coach sacking Port Adelaide
Nope.
OK that's on field here are some off field stuff:
- Brain Taylor will last about a quarter of the season calling Friday night games. He will not click with the audience. Forcing Channel 7 to offer the job to James Brayshaw, Mark Howard or Andy Maher. And if they can't get them they will try and talk Dennis Cometti to come out of retirement. While Taylor will be moved to a matches played on Saturday or Sunday,
Nope. Still doing it.
- This will be the AFL Footy Show on Channel 9 last year, well depending on Sam Newman's contract, if it's up 9 won't renew it and end the show with it, the Sunday version will remain. Well at least I hope that happens.
Nope. But the show was overhauled during the year when ratings went down. It’s on its last legs though.

Hey ho let’s go.
My 2018 AFL Predictions:
Premiers: Adelaide winning over GWS
Brownlow Winner: Tom Mitchell (Hawthorn)
Top 4: GWS, Adelaide, Richmond, and Essendon
How’s my side Hawthorn: Honestly, don’t see them improving this year.. still a couple of seasons away from returning to top 8 form .. also because;
Season prediction: this season won’t be close for most of the competition.. meaning there will be a big dip between the top 8 and the bottom 10 sides. The draft post this season has been said to be offering a rich pickings of quality future prospects. So teams have traded in future draft picks, given away past picks, have an aging list, and so on might want to be first to the pot. People think Brisbane will be the big movers.. but because of this draft I don’t see this happening. Also why I believe that Hawthorn are gonna have another below average season. Yes I’m suggesting teams are gonna Tank.
Going Up: Melbourne Demons will be the team to have the big rise .. well they have too. Essendon will probably have a big move up too
Going Down now. Going down: my rule this one they have to the team needs to have finished in the top 8 last season.. hard to pick... might go Sydney. They have some concerns..
Coach on the Chopping Block (tm F4W): Ross Lyon (Fremantle) overrated, horrible game playing style. Time to for him to leave this competition.
Players to retire: Luke Hodge (again), Garry Ablett, Shaun Burgoyne and Alex Rance
Other stuff:
The AFL Footy Show will be axed this season ... yes I said it last year.. but it’s clutching straws at the moment.

I won't believe Sydney missing a top eight until I see it, especially after last year (starting 0-6, only to go 13-2 from there and make it in). What is it, only three times since 1995?

After an absence of about 8 years, the NRL is once again being shown on a proper sports channel in the UK so I can finally get back into it. The difference in quality between the Super League and the NRL is eye-watering. It hurts me to say that I think the top teams in the Superleague are comparable to the middle ones in the NRL. Anyhoo i'll be cheering on the Wests Tigers because I'm a Castleford fan so I might as well give the Aussie tigers some support too!
