I think all the Sydney teams (Swans and Roosters, plus Sydney FC in the A-League and the Kings in the NBL, most notably) are about to change their logos over the next year or two, because a lot of them use the Opera House silhouette in them and they’re getting really stingy about likeness rights.

The zigzag on the head/neck of the Swan is sort of Opera House shaped .

Betting if you head to the Carlton HQ, you will find that photos of the time then VP of the U.S Joe Biden, attended a Carlton home match at the MCG, in a more prominent place amongst the club’s trophies and medals.

Some news from the women’s AFL league:
If you can’t see the tweet the AFLW is expanding to include the four AFL teams that don’t have representation in that league: Essendon, Hawthorn, Port Adelaide and the Sydney Swans (yeah the Gold Coast and GWS got a team before any of these four teams..
Sure it won’t be difficult Essendon and Hawthorn have teams in the VFLW I’m sure they just migrate them into the AFLW. And while Port and Sydney don’t have state league sides they have academy training programs for women.

Old Mate Rona has surfaced again in Melbourne.. with a couple of the confirmed infected had attend matches at the MCG and Marvel on Sunday.
This weekend’s round is scheduled to go ahead with crowds allowed to attend… although an AFL match between Hawthorn and the Gold Coast to be held in Darwin has been postponed.
There maybe be a snap lockdown before the weekend gets here though, but I don’t how it will effect the round. Also Friday at Marvel will be the top of the table clash between The Bulldogs and The Demons with a maximum allowed capacity excepted. Nervous times in Victorian].

Update: Victoria is going into a seven day lockdown from midnight..
But the this weekends matches and other sporting events will go ahead without crowds.
A moment of silence to all the money the AFL won’t be getting from that top of the table clash being hosted at their stadium.

Update:
Gold Coast and Hawthorn is back on… in Sydney at the SCG on Saturday night.
And the match between Richmond and Adelaide has also been moved to Sydney at GWS’s ground. This is to spare the Adelaide team, crew and fans from travelling into Victoria and quarantining afterwards.

Doesn't help that, apparently, only two percent of the country is fully vaccinated.
I know I'm looking at this as a bloody American, but why the sluggish rollout?

Sorry distracted with new job and did not post about the Nathan Buckley thing
Well, he just coached his last game for Collingwood now, ending on a high note with a victory over ladder leaders Melbourne at the SCG in the traditional Queens Birthday clash.
Assistant coach Robert Harvey will step in as caretaker coach for the rest of the season.

Hawthorn have announced that four time premiership head coach Alastair Clarkson will step down at the end of the 2022 in order for Sam Mitchell to take over in 2023. It will end a near two decade reign that lead to one the clubs most successful eras. The news comes after Mitchell knocked back an offer from Collingwood to feel the coaching seat vacated by Nathan Buckley. This has been planned by the Hawks for a while. Mitchell has been coaching the Hawk’s seconds Box Hill and it looks like he has taken to coaching like a duck to water. Don’t know what Clarkson is gonna do once his tenure is over, go into the media? Coach another club? If it’s the latter there will be some nervous coaches of under performing clubs next year. Unless Hawthorns form drastically turns around next season, it looks like Clarkson is gonna finish his time as Hawthorn HC with the four premierships…… and no coach of the year award. www.afl.com.au/news/643436/succession-plan-sam-mitchell-to-replace-alastair-clarkson-as-coach

I’m quite upset at the moment.
This will be Alistair Clarkson’s last season with the Hawks after 18 years, 4 flags and being the most successful Hawthorn coach in the clubs history.

AFL news update:
It’s Finals time, but with lockdowns still in Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales place the matches will take place in South Australia and for the first time in finals history Tasmania. The Grand Final will likely take place at Perth’s Optus Stadium.. with “of course” timing of both of the WA teams failing make the finals in 2021.
And Carlton have derailed the Teague Train.. David Teague has been sacked after only two seasons in charge (and a half season as caretaker).. in a really shitty situation. I believe he should been given more time with the last two Covid compromised seasons. They are not going to get Alistair Clarkson for 2022. It’s rumoured that Ross Lyon will return to the coaching ranks as his replacement.. nothings been confirmed so far.

Collingwood have appointed Craig McCrae as senior coach for 2022 and beyond. He will be another Clarkson apprentice to coach an AFL team. Also a 3 time premiership okay with Brisbane.
ICYMI Toby Greene will miss the rest of finals series even if GWS make the Granny after making contact with an umpire in a deliberate manner. If there was a list of stupid things Greene has done .. this would rank at the top.
Whoever wins it from here with exception of the Bulldogs the team will end at least a decade old premiership drought or in one case win their first ever.
Melbourne: 1964 Port Adelaide: 2004 Geelong: 2011 Brisbane: 2003 GWS: Nill
Melbourne and well GWS yet to win one this century.
And if the Bulldogs do win it would be historic because it would be their third and Luke Beveridge would become first Doggie’s coach to win multiple premierships.
You can probably find history from any premiership year,,, so here is this years 😜

NRL finals are all set:
#1-Melbourne Storm v #4-Manly Sea Eagles #2-Penrith Panthers v #3-South Sydney Rabbitohs #5-Sydney Roosters v #8-Gold Coast Titans #6-Parramatta Eels v #7-Newcastle Knights
My team the Cronulla Sharks misses out for the first time since 2014... It’s our own fault for putting ourselves in a position where we needed the New Zealand Warriors to not let the Titans beat them by 11 points or more. They lost 44-0.

It was truly a Melbourne night for both codes tonight
Melbourne Storm won their final against the Manly Sea Eagles to get to the preliminary finals
And the Melbourne Demons smashed Geelong by 83 points to book a spot in the AFL Grand Final.. 21 years after their last GF appearance. They now await the winner of the other prelim final between Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs to see who stands in the way of ending a six decade old plus premiership drought.
