To all of you who are mad, blame the NFL's stubbornness. They acted like they were freaking invincible and they fell down to earth hard. I just want him gone before he's able to put a team in London.

Roger Goodell is now an effing joke. The only thing I care about is that we as Colts fans, once again, have to hear a bunch of nonsense from Patriots fans about how whiny and pathetic we are when most of us have moved on. That was one of the three main reasons I was so passionate about the whole damned thing. I had little against Brady. Hell, I had little against Bellichick and he was a confirmed cheater. I cared for the following three reasons: 1) Brady lied. He attempted to do a minor cheat and he lied about it. On principle, I had an issue with that. If he had manned up and not thrown his equipment managers under the bus I would not have cared if he had only been hit with a one game suspension or even just a stiff fine, but he could not do that. He let the little guys take the fall. I lost respect for him because of that. 2) One article suggested that deflating the ball might have had something to do with the low number of fumbles by the Patriots since Spygate. I don't know if that is accurate or not, but it makes some sense and actually could have an effect on the outcome of games if accurate. I just don't know if it is accurate or not, so I will withhold judgement in that regard. 3) Last, but certainly not least, are Patriot fans. They, collectively, are the worst fans I have ever dealt with. I am not saying that there are not tolerable Patriot fans. I am just saying that finding them is like spotting a four-leaf clover in a field. I know they exist but I don't expect to find them very often. Let me put it this way; I am a Colts fan and I tend to avoid forums for Colts fans because literally more than half of the posts to such forums are Patriot fans trolling the site. I get that some people like to think of themselves as having a connection to the successes of their favorite team, but these people tend to be so f***ing delusional. I don't hate the Patriots because I am jealous of their success. Other teams, both in football and in other sports, have had great success as well without me hating them. I hate the Patriots because most of the fans I have been exposed to over the last 15 years make me weep for humanity. It did not used to be that way. I once thought of the Patriots as my second favorite team. Those days are long gone, however, and it has little to do with the team themselves.

Honestly I feel the same way about Boston sports fans as a whole. They're not as bad as Philadelphia, but they're close. Probably about as bad as New York, if not a bit worse, and I say that as a New York sports fan.

Now Lawrence Phillips has applied for reinstatement. Unbelievable. Uh....considering you are being charged for killing an inmate, I wouldn't expect that reinstatement in the mail anytime soon.

According to Kraft, Brady is a living messiah and should be knighted and his body bronzed after death and preserved in the smithsonian

We have a different thread now for the Deflategate stuff, keep it there as part of the settlement or the judge mod might rule against posting about it at all.

I say take this to the higher courts, and in some demented, totally unintended fashion, get a ruling that strips the NFL of its nonprofit status.

Ok, I know jack shit about American Football so help me out here. Is what he did really that bad or is it "gamesmanship"? In Association football, some teams do things that may not seem very sporting but aren't actually against any regulations of the game. For example, one team (Stoke City) had a player who was capable of throwing the ball back a great distance from the sideline. When Stoke City came to visit some grounds, they moved the advertising boards closer to the lines, so he could have less of a run-up and not get as much distance on his throws. Or another example, some clubs instruct their ball boys and girls to take that little bit longer getting the ball back, if their team is winning and wants to waste a bit more time. These things may not be seen as "in the spirit of the game" but they're not strictly outlawed by governing bodies.
So, is deflating the balls to give him an advantage (or to put the other team at as a disadvantage) really that bad. Because as someone who doesn't watch the games and has no allegiance or aversion to any particular team, it seems to me that it's quite a bad thing to do and he should be punished for it. And please, an objective answer (no Brady-lovers saying he was in his rights to do so or Brady-haters saying he should be kicked out of the sport).

For how many months have I been saying that all Tom Brady deserves is his day in front of someone totally independent and neutral? It's been a lot of months. And he finally gets those days and what happens? The judge positively eviscerates the biased, one-sided Wells Report and the laughable attempts from Roger Goodell and the evil, soulless monster that is the NFL to demonize Brady and the Patriots. Line after line, word after word, he cut them down. Because this has been, from day one all the way back in January, a farce.
The league leaks false and damaging information to Chris Mortensen to get the ball rolling on this entire "scandal". They pay Ted Wells millions of dollars to produce the report they want. Roger Goodell oversees the appeal process. This was an embarrassment from the NFL side of things from the second it started. But of course, give Brady a few days in front of a judge who isn't on the NFL payroll and lo and behold, he tosses the entire suspension in the trash.
Hmm, who should I believe? The guy who has professed his innocence from day one and has had no evidence turn up on the contrary or the corrupt league and its megalomanical commissioner which has changed its story time and time again? Oh, but that's right, there was that one text message over a period of months and that guy took a bag of footballs into a bathroom for a few seconds. I reject that crap like Ben Wallace in his prime. Get the f*** outta here with that weak-ass stuff.

And please, an objective answer (no Brady-lovers saying he was in his rights to do so or Brady-haters saying he should be kicked out of the sport). It is debatable. There are a few ways it could help and a few ways it could hurt: 1) The most compelling argument I have seen as to how it could help is that it might have helped the team fumble the ball less often. Deflated balls are less lively and less likely to get knocked out of the ball carriers hand if it is hit during a tackle attempt. Since the Patriots became really good at not fumbling the ball around the time they were allowed to prepare all of their own game balls, this is suspect though unproven. 2) Another way it might help is that Brady does not have huge hands. As a result, it is beneficial to him for the balls to be smaller, which underinflated balls would be. Therefore, it might help him throw the ball under certain conditions (he certainly can throw a regulation ball just fine, but it might still help). 3) Another way it might help is that an underinflated ball might be less lively for a receiver trying to catch a pass. Having said all of that, there are downsides. 1) Underinflated balls do not travel through the air as well as fully inflated balls. Underinflating the balls would probably make long passes harder. 2) If underinflated balls are easier to catch, then they are easier for defenders to pick off. Receivers tend to have better hands than defenders, so making the ball easier to catch might help defenders more than receivers.

I believe they willingly gave that up earlier this year. Good catch; just read up on it, they did. Unfortunately, they'll be paying a drip in the overall tax bucket (about $10 million total), and a lot of the push to remove that exemption status has to do with basically hiding executive pay (i.e. we won't get to hear how much higher than $44 million a year Goodell is going to make going forward). Of the big sports leagues, the NHL and PGA still have tax exempt status.

Now, I haven't heard several people that said they would admit they were wrong, that they were wrong. But I guess they don't want to give me the satisfaction which is okay, because I'm just fine with them knowing I was right and that the NFL would lose this one.
EDIT: bluemei....this post is not talking to you. I'm talking about others who are instead making excuses like Room Temperature.

Quick thing: maybe I missed it, but I don't believe the judge exonerated Brady.
He most certainly did punish Goodell for going beyond the punishments prescribed in the CBA.

Quick thing: maybe I missed it, but I don't believe the judge exonerated Brady. He most certainly did punish Goodell for going beyond the punishments prescribed in the CBA. NPR was discussing this a few hours ago and it was made clear that Brady's innocence or guilt was not under discussion. It was Goodell's handling of the whole thing. The law expert they were talking to also said that the wording the judge used makes it nearly impossible for the NFL to have a case with their appeal.

I myself have admitted that I am 65% convinced he knew something about it. But that was never what this was all about. This was all about the way the NFL doled out punishment and how they did that farce of an appeal.
