I don't get why they didn't do this in a way that resolved the story, though. Imagine Rusev getting the title off Cena for his extended break thanks to some interference from Summer. He then holds up his end of the deal and marries Summer on Raw, but then during the wedding, right at the "Does anyone object" part, out comes Lana. Big reunion moment, Summer is left crying at the altar, Rusev and Lana are back together. Bam, you get some TV out of the most stock tropes of all f***ing time. Simple, but effective.
Instead, it's just dropped. Because WWE is written by hacks.

It's stupid and petty and pure WWE.

Ding dong, this feud is dead! Until Summer allies with a jilted Dolph Ziggler to get revenge on Rusev. ...shit. I wouldn't hate this. Summer and Dolph would work well together.

While the segment itself seemed fine I hated they they used TMZ to change an angle. It reminded me to much of when Bully and Brooke had a storyline effected because Brooke got engaged to a football player. For one you should never remind people of TNA but really I just hate the breaking of the fourth wall WWE does every now and then. I never have been and never will be a fan of it.

WWE's top male babyface is openly dating the top heel female, which has been acknowledged on Raw several times. How exactly is this any different? Cena and Nikki are not in a storyline together. That is the difference.

My next door neighbor watches all wrestling shows on tv but doesn't follow wrestling news or gossip sites and he was completely baffled by the news RuRu & Lana are together in real-life and was pissed cause he wanted to see how the angle played out that along with new day and The Big Dog is all he cares about. He told me Kane is gonna win the title from Rollins and face taker at mania.

I'm a bit confused on the chain of events. Did Lana and Rusev tell TMZ about it themselves? Did they post it on social media and TMZ found out and ran with it? Did a 'friend' find out and tip them off?
If they made the choice to publicize their engagement, in the midst of this angle, it was pretty dumb of them. Kayfabe has died off, but it's still more alive in wrestling than it is other entertainment forms. People feel like that should change, but the fact is that it hasn't completely.
I don't condone WWE burying them at all, but Lana and Rusev had to realize that there was at least a good chance their employer would be pissed, and that they work for a company that lets that backstage stuff inform what's happening on screen, thus screwing with their careers.
If they were found out, then there's nothing they can really do about that and I wouldn't expect them to lie, because no one would believe them anyway.
Sucky situation all around.

I think if Total Divas didn't exist, this wouldn't seem as petty by WWE.
