Why dont pitchers immediately throw the ball when the batter

Isn't ready? Like when the batter is adjusting their gloves or playing with their bat. Like boom instant strike

The player has to be in the box for a pitcher to pitch unless they are stalling outside the box.

Should be noted that there is an unwritten rule that you don't throw a pitch when the hitter isn't looking. That is a safety issue.

Yeah, a quick pitch is perfectly legal (LaTroy Hawkins is the master of it, and taught it to a couple of guys who are in the Mets' bullpen this year), though a lot of players hate when pitchers do it. It's just that you should never throw when somebody isn't looking, because if God forbid the ball slips out of your hand, the dude could get cracked in the skull and never see it coming.

Pretty sure the umpires can a ball if the batter isn't ready
