You just don't get it. It's never just baseball when your a Mets fan. When your second fiddle to a far less knowledgeable fan base (through my experience at least) your longing for that World Series crown and have that day of glory. We had it. Take nothing away from the Royals but Mets straight up lost this one. Only positive thing I could say that this wasn't supposed to be our year and we have a pennant to display. But I'm also a diehard NY Rangers fan and I'm using their final loss to the Kings 2 years ago as comparison. The Rangers were a team that played their hearts out but fell victim to a better team. Maybe the Royals were better, but the Mets couldn't get out of their own way. Don't you think it's better to have been good enough to win it all then to be a team that gets beaten down by a better opponent? I can't really say. The Rangers didn't really get beaten down despite the 4-1 series defeat. And I felt like they didn't disappoint anybody. The Mets although nobody thought this was their year, disappointed massively. They didn't play their best ball, and were in position to win 4 out of the five games. I don't want to take anything away from the Royals, but if not for their own miscues, the Mets could be champs right now, which adds to the hurt.

So many Mets fans on social media being angry and depressed. It's just baseball! That said, what an exciting series. I was on the edge of my seat through most of it. You just don't get it. But the loss has no bearing on my life.

Yeah, that's kind of the pain, here, and oddly enough I have a similar comparison with the Devils/Kings series from 2012 that I fall back on. The Devils went down 3-0 in that series, but the first two games had gone to OT and ended in Kings goals despite the Devils controlling a lot of the puck possession in those periods; they then won two in a row to force a Game 6, but it was too late by then. That was one where it was frustrating to see your team be so close, but you knew they played all out the entire way and luck just didn't always bounce their way; it's a short series, it happens. But the way the Mets lost this one really stings, because of how much of it was driven by BABIP luck, late game defensive miscues, and late blown leads. Hell, Familia got tagged for 3 blown saves, yet the only bad pitch he made the entire series was that Game 1 homer he gave up; each other time he was inducing weakly hit ground balls that just weren't converted into outs.

My team loses, it sucks. But the loss has no bearing on my life. Fixed for accuracy. Feeling something extreme when your team wins or loses is what fans do. See also "fairweather." Not knocking you, but in return, don't knock people who feel invested in their teams' outcomes. That's part of the fun.

That's part of the fun. "Casual"? Ok then. If you want to consider me a 'casual' fan - someone who grew up in DFW, went to dozens of games at the old Arlington Stadium, counts Steve Buechele and David Hulse among my favorite Rangers, follows Public Address announcer Chuck Morgan on Twitter, and nearly cried tears of joy seeing Nolan Ryan being inducted into the HOF as the first player to wear a Rangers cap on his plaque - then go ahead. I understand that fans get invested in their teams. That's not my point, and perhaps this is where your reading comprehension needs work. I was merely saying that some fans go way overboard when their team loses - to the point where they actually go into either a depression or a violent rage. Those people need help. Yes, this is baseball and it's entertainment, and we love our teams, but at the same time it's ONLY baseball. It doesn't matter in the grand scheme of our lives. Yes, my Rangers lost 2 World Series in a row - one in extremely heartbreaking fashion. You know what I did? I finished watching the World Series each time, lamented the fact that my favorite team has disappointed me again, and carried on with my life. I'm not accusing you of acting this way, but you need to know that I'm not lumping true fans in with the fans who have no sense of reality.
