I don't get why Boston trades 2 top 50 prospects for a closer.

I don't get it. At all. It's kind of a small horse, I mean what am I missing? Am I crazy?

Matt Wieters has accepted the Orioles' 15.8 million qualifying offer.
A bit surprising considering he's a Boras guy.

This package could have been at least a starting point in a deal for someone like Sonny Gray or Chris Sale. I'd rather get an ace starter that gives you 200+ innings than an ace closer that only gives you 60.

I got a feeling that the Sox wouldn't be able to get Gray or Sale unless they were willing to part with Xander Bogaerts or Mookie Betts. Regardless, it looks like the Red Sox plan to get their ace through free agency than a trade.

Reds GM Dick Williams said the Red Sox inquired about Aroldis Chapman but a deal was never imminent.
Phillies acquired RHP Jeremy Hellickson from the Diamondbacks for RHP Sam McWilliams.

No shock when Jeff Samardzija turned down the White Sox' $15.8M qualifying offer, making him a free agent. Two weeks ago, the Sox bought Alexei Ramirez's $1M option to make him a free agent as well. They want to bring him back, but not for the $10M he was slated to receive for 2016.
Tyler Saladino and Trayce Thompson could be the two battling for SS next year, while the team is keeping eyes open about 3B and catching options.

I for one am shocked that Kris Bryant and Carlos Correa won the Rookie of the Year awards.

Aubrey Huff, who last played in the majors in 2012, intends to attempt a comeback this winter at age 39.
Mariners acquired OF Leonys Martin and RHP Anthony Bass from the Rangers for RHP Tom Wilhelmsen, OF James Jones, and a player to be named later.

Even though I would have liked the rookie closer Osuma of the Blue Jays to win the award for selfish reasons, it really was a foregone conclusion that Carlos Correa as well as Kris Bryant would win the rookie of the year honors.

David Ortiz is planning to retire at the end of the 2016 season.

I looked and I'm disappointed that the Red Sox end the season in Fenway. I wanted to see Ortiz end his career in Yankee Stadium to see if they would stop the game and felate him like the Sox did for Jeter

I doubt it. Ortiz isn't the respected rival in New York like Jeter was in Boston.

I can't envision the possibility of Yankees fans not giving David Ortiz some sort of ovation in his final at-bat in the Bronx. Yeah, he scowled and sneered and showboated after home runs and sure, he was the driving force behind the greatest comeback in sports history, but I'd like to think there's a grudging respect among Yankees fans for Ortiz. And not unlike Red Sox fans during the Jeter years, Yankees fans have a championship during the Ortiz years. It's amazing what a championship (or three, in the Red Sox' case) will do to warm a fan base's cold, icy heart over a decade.
As for Ortiz's retirement, this day was an inevitability. Ortiz wasn't going to play forever, and although he's not shown a hugely visible sign of deterioration, all good things must come to an end. It's hard to pick a favorite David Ortiz moment in his Red Sox tenure, considering there's so many huge game-winning home runs. He was a pivotal cog in three World Series championship teams separated by 10 years. You simply don't see that any more.

What can I really say? He certainly was the greatest Red Sox player of my lifetime and maybe the best of all time. All I ever wanted was for the Red Sox to win one World Series. Instead they won three and he played a large part in all of them. There will never be another like him.

Baseball Prospectus has come out with their first top ten prospect list. Leading off is one of the worst systems in Baseball, the Tigers: RHP Michael Fulmer CF Derek Hill RHP Beau Burrows RHP Spencer Turnbull OF Christin Stewart IF JaCoby Jones RHP Joe Jimenez 2B Javier Betancourt SS Dixon Machado RHP Luis Cessa
Despite that, they have solid prospects in Fulmer (ceiling of a #2 starter) and Hill (ceiling of a gold glove center fielder.)
