Very good episode. A bit rushed plot-wise but the songs made up for it.
It's weird. As a kid, watching Disney movies and whatnot, I always hated when the characters would break out into song. Probably due to some notion of "THEY'RE INTERRUPTING THE PLOT!" or something; I was weird like that. But I've done a 180 on that in recent years, and I think MLP is a big reason as to why. The songs are just so consistently good that they can actually enhance an episode that's weak in terms of story. Daniel Ingram is a friggin' treasure, though of course Lena Hall did a superb job as well.

So, I watched the Season 5 Finale promo and...I don't have high hopes for it. If you have been around these threads long enough, you know my thoughts regarding Twilight: I have no problem with her ascension since I always thought she was clearly portrayed as the mane character with the others playing very strong supporting roles. My opinion is that just because she is a princess and the others are not, does not mean that the others are useless serfs who are just there to say hail to the glorious princess of friendship...as evidenced by all of them having key episodes, getting endowed with rainbow power, have their own seats in the Council of Friendship and perhaps the strongest sentence that there ever was regarding the show "What would the princess of friendship be without her friends?". However, I did not like when Twilight was going alone on an adventure with the others being left at home. I hated it in the first EG movie (although I was lenient because there was a reason for it) and hated it in the second EG movie (where they made a much, much flimsier excuse for why the others could not go). Now from the look of the Season 5 Finale it looks like Twilight will be the only one to get sucked with Starlight Glimmer into that time travel vortex...and that is a direction I do not like. This is not like Sailor Moon R - The Movie or the Captain Planet 2-parter "Two Futures" where it was that the supporting cast's lives would have been pretty miserable if the main character (or in CP's case, one of the five main characters) did not meet them etc.. The Sonic Rainboom was an event that Rainbow Dash found her CM in that inadvertantly caused the others to find their destiny equally. Twilight was not a special focus in that regard, she was just one of the five...which is why it is stupid to have her go this alone. It would be much more interesting if all mane six would have gone into the time vortex...you could have so much fun with each of the mane cast meeting their alternate future selves, perhaps even have them solve the timeline problem to get back to the real timeline. Instead, we will probably get Twilight meet their alternate selfs alone, solve everything and at the end of the day, she will tell the others how she saved the day. And the worst part is that this will only give ammunition to those fans who will say:"Ha, you see? The show did turn into Princess Mary Sue and her five serfs! We were right all along!" Now, will it come to pass like I said? Maybe, maybe not. It is hard to tell from a 30-second promo. We will just have to wait and see. If it turns out like I predicted, I cannot be disappointed. And if it turns out differently than I expected...well, that would be great.  |

That thought hadn't crossed my mind...Twilight getting everything in order by giving Rainbow Dash the advice needed to do the Sonic Rainboom when she was a filly...thus making it Twilight herself to set everything in motion...
