I just watched it and yeah, I like it. I mean, from the trailers we know everyone meets back up again at some point but there's a good amount of worldbuilding here and allows for more to grow before that happens.
I always liked the idea of this season and beyond being set in the future because now you can establish your own stuff instead of tip toeing across established continuity, which is neat.

Also I don’t think I ever posted this here but I have a story about Season One.
So I live with my sister and her boyfriend and we watched all of Discovery together and when the first season finale happened, he was pissed. Why? Because he didn’t realize that it was TV canon and not movie canon. I have no idea how he didn’t know that but he didn’t so he had what was a sulk about it all.
And then me and my sister watched The Good Place season one finale and that was karma coming back on us.

Guess those "STD isn't getting a fourth season" folks on YouTube will have to shift the goalposts again. "Star Trek in trouble! Discovery ignores CBS-Viacom to film fourth series!" They'll also find some way to blame Brie Larson and Kathleen Kennedy for this too

They'll also find some way to blame Brie Larson and Kathleen Kennedy for this too "Get woke, go broke!"* {Spoiler}*And by "broke" we mean "Make enough money to get the green light to spend a couple of hundred million dollars producing three live-action series, two animated series, and begin development of a fourth live-action series and a miniseries."
I mean, say what you will about nu-Trek, it's being around long enough at this point that if it wasn't selling it would've been shut down.

And Star Trek's been woke outside of that one episode in Season 1 of TNG.

And Star Trek's been woke outside of that one episode in Season 1 of TNG. Like, that’s a point too. Imagine looking at most of the ideas Gene Roddenberry had in his lifetime and thinking “I remember when Star Trek was apolitical, then those darn SJWs took over!”

Imagine looking at most of the ideas Gene Roddenberry had in his lifetime and thinking “I remember when Star Trek was apolitical, then those darn SJWs took over!” And yet somehow if you browse the responses to almost any Trek article posted on social media you'll invariably find at least a half-dozen of those types of comments. Have these people been watching the same Star Trek as the rest of us? All things considered, I feel like the modern Trek has actually been less heavy handed with politics and social commentary than classic Trek. It's still there of course, but the shows are definitely less preachy than TOS and TNG would occasionally be.

Just caught up with the most recent episode. As much of a left-field choice Werner Herzog was for The Mandalorian, I really didn't expect David f***ing Cronenberg to show up in this.

Good episode of Discovery this week. Feels like it's something that'll be reference for when some of the story arcs come to a head in terms of what it has going on.

{Spoiler}I like the juxtaposition the USS Discovery has in being obsolete by several centuries in its current timeframe, yet its spore drive also puts it way ahead of everyone else in terms of propulsion because of what happened with dilithium during The Burn.

Potentially everyone can now, you know.

i really like this show, i look forward to Fridays when the new episodes come out, i'm not a massive Star Trek fan, i like DS9 and Enterprise, and Wrath of Khan. but i really like Discovery. i would just like one episode in this series set in the future where Michael Burnham is not in it at all, and the story doesn't revolve around her somehow/involve her in anyway.
Why does she have to Whisper and tilt her head to the side during every conversation?

Why does she have to Whisper and tilt her head to the side during every conversation? Or cry in what feels like every episode. It's really developed into a fine show, but just because Sonequa Martin-Green is really good at crying doesn't mean you need to give her an excuse to do it so often. I'd just as soon have Tilly and Saru be the focus of the show.

Cronenberg's back, and he knows about the Kelvin timeline. I think we can assume he's Section 31.
