I'm okay with this, but I'm honestly curious how they'll pull it off without losing the cheap, homebrewed charm of the original series. If this is a revival, I wonder if it'll be Joel's crew (him, Trace Beaulieu, Frank, J. Elvis) vs Mike's crew (essentially, Rifftrax plus or minus Mary Jo Pehl). Either that or they'll throw us a loop and it'll be an entirely new cast, but another part of the appeal of MST3k was how small the cast and crew was and whatnot.

Don't know if they'll ever do it, but an ultimate crossover with Mike, Joel, Josh, Kevin, Trace and Bill on one movie would amazing.

I don't remember where I read it, but I think I recall Joel saying that if the new series got off the ground, it'd involve a bunch of the old crew, but they'd work in a new cast, too...yeah, he kept it pretty vague. My only concern with anything surrounding a MST3K revival is that it's insanely difficult to recapture the style of humor presented in the original. In many ways it was a product of its time; not in terms of the humor itself, because MST never tried to be too current with its references, but more in the sense that original crew came up during a time when more people had ready access to media from all different eras, from old time theater productions to obscure BBC material that found itself on PBS here in the States. Obviously in today's era we have access to basically anything ever made, but since media is so splintered today it's not quite the same. Plus, there was the earnestness of the original that went hand in hand with the sarcasm; too often nowadays when people try to replicate MST we wind up getting too much snark and too much "hey guys, watch me slip THIS meme in here!" references...hell, I love Rifftrax, but their style is definitely more Internet-centric than straight up original MST3K. Still, I choose to err on the side of good vibes for this, and I'll be glad to hear anything about Turkey Day 2015. And the news about Rifftrax releasing MST3K episodes is great, too, since apparently they come with new commentary from Mike, Kevin, and Bill...not sure if it's new humorous commentary, or more fan-centric "here's what we were thinking when we did The Final Sacrifice" style commentary. Think I'd really enjoy the latter. EDIT: Bah, I guess I read the press release wrong. We get a special Mike intro to the episodes, but then they're normal, no added stuff. Ah well, still cool.

Best Brains, Inc. no longer exists. As of September 2nd, it is now Consolidated Puppets Incorporated.

I didn't even realize Best Brains still existed to that point, though I suppose it was probably as a holding company for the MST3k assets.

I'd like to see an MST3k All Stars sort of thing with Joel and Mike, Kevin as Tom Servo, and Bill Corbett as Crow. And get Trace back as Dr. Forrester and have him comment on how different Crow's voice sounds compared to what he's used to.

I wonder how they'll bring back the show since it ended with Mike and the bots returning to Earth. MST3K: The Lost Experiments maybe? Also, i hope they can get the rights to some Asylum films if they really are doing a revival.

Mst3k was my favorite show of all time epically after the move to Scyfy.

They're doing a reboot of the series, where it's a mockumentary-style show about the 'behind the scenes' lives of Joel, Mike, Tom Servo, Crow T. Robot, Gypsy, and the others.

If they were to do this I think it'd be fun if it was like an "Anything you can do I can do better" tit for tat between Joel/Crow(Trace)/Servo(Kevin) and Mike/Crow(Bill)/Servo(Kevin), where they went episode to episode challenging the other to endure a worse film than the last.

I can't figure out if Mike and Joel get along or not. I don't recall either of them really talking about the other that much. I dunno if there was/is tension between the creator and the head writer.

I feel like the main sourpuss in the MST3K/Best Brains works has been Jim Mallon, though I've seen a number of different explanations why, and a lot of them seem to paint him as basically a Kevin Dunn-type figure. It's really hard to say. I don't recall there being any particular beefs or feuds between the MST3K cast other than seemingly Jim Mallon vs everyone else.
Edit: from doing a little more snooping, it pretty much does sound like everyone fell out with Jim Mallon at some point, either over creative directions (Joel) or about royalties/residuals from the MST3K rights (everyone else). Supposedly until VERY recently, almost nobody except Jim Mallon was getting anything from the MST3K DVDs and whatnot, hence the plethora of side projects and Jim Mallon clinging like Gollum to the MST3K intellectual property.
I want to say the cringeworthy flash cartoon of the MST3K bots that came out a few years ago was almost entirely Mallon asserting the copyright, but I'm not sure.

I'm a die-hard MSTie. Back when tape trading was the big thing, I managed to amass every episode there was, including the KTMA eps. Got all the Film Crew releases, most of the Cinematic Titanic stuff and a good smattering of Rifftrax retail releases (my budget the last few years keeps me from going hog-wild on getting the rest).
That said...I'm not sure I want a new MST. Mike, Bill and Kevin are doing very well with Rifftrax these days, and on their own terms (their set-up requires very little in terms of licensing fees the way MST did). The rest of the crew tried with Titanic, and it just...wasn't quite as good. The jokes weren't as funny, most of them sounded bored and stilted and the premise was just 3rd rate MST. There was no spark there; it felt like they were going through the motions to collect a paycheck based on their previous reputation. If there's a new MST, I don't want that.

The only way I'll be happy with this is if both Joel and Mike are on board.
Seriously, Mike just surpassed Joel in just about every way that if this only involves the Cinematic Titanic people...then it's just not going to be that great.

Hopefully, the big news is that they're stranding Mallon in space.
