I wasn't too keen on this one. I remember the 2003 one being really lackluster as well. Mostly because the Marlins were such an unexciting team in general.
What were some others you couldn't get hyped for and what was the reason?

As a Red Sox fan, it was pretty hard to give a s**t about the 2008 World Series after the team I support fell just short of completing a comeback from a three-games-to-one deficit in the American League Championship Series. Plus, it would have made for the possibility of back-to-back world championships, so that was just an added twist of the knife. But on the whole, it was just an exasperated sigh and a "...ugggghhhh" any time I tried to watch any of that series.
It also didn't help that the series itself was wildly anticlimactic, as Philadelphia completely outplayed Tampa Bay. Hell, the only drama was whether they'd ever actually finish game five or if that deluge would just continue until we were forced to gather animals two of each kind and head to the ark.
As a non-Red Sox fan, I'd imagine it must have been a challenge to get invested in the 2007 World Series. Despite Colorado's torrid streak heading into the Fall Classic, that thing had "four-game sweep for Boston" written all over it from the moment the ball left Dustin Pedroia's bat in the bottom of the first inning in game one.

Gee, I wonder what mitchelhayes and unocal 76's opinion on this is.
In all seriousness, probably 2009. I don't hate the Phillies but could care less to see them repeat. I also hated the Yankees my entire life, but not only did I have no reason to really cheer either team, I didn't find any of the games particularly interesting.
A couple of runners up, 2003 comes to mind. I used to love the Marlins but when they won in 1997 and proceeded to clean house, that just couldn't respect them anymore. I still cheered them over the Yankees.
I'll also second the 2012 Tigers and Giants. Just a pathetic showing from the Tigers, they should be ashamed.
Also I don't know of many people who would remember the Padres getting swept by the Yankees.

Since I became a baseball fan in 1995, I've boycotted the World Series twice: 2003 and 2009. The former was because I thought it should have been Cubs-Red Sox instead of Marlins-Yankees. The latter was because I was sick of both the Yankees and the Phillies in 2009. So those two would rank near the top of the list.
I agree that 2012 was boring and anticlimactic. So was 2007. I'll mention 1998 too -- did anyone think the Padres had a realistic chance of winning?

I'm gonna go with 2012. At least Marlins-Yankees had its share of decent moments and still went 6 games- games 3, 4, and 5 were really not that bad.
But 2012 was a fitting dud to a playoff that had so much potential.
The Even Year Giants swept a Tigers team that seemed to only wake up in September and a few games vs. Oakland and the Yankees.
Lot of potential for new blood- Reds, Nationals, Oakland, Baltimore- and we get the same old same old.
It's ironic, for after the Cardinals came back vs. DC, it looked like we were gonna get a WS of 88-win teams. Then the Giants did what they do best- never lose in even-numbered years.

1998- Padres actually played well by sweep standards save for game 2. Games 1, 3, and 4 were still up in the air at the 7th inning stretch.
The Tigers never led in the 2012 WS until game 4. Even the Padres at least led in games 1 and 3.

This is the first in a few years I even watched the World Series, so there's been a stretch of dull ones.

I would say that the 2007 World Series, where my beloved Rockies came off their amazing run from .500 at the start of August, only to collapse like a flan in a cupboard and be swept by the Red Sox.
Now, we had a 94 loss season, so I don't have to worry about a repeat anytime soon. But that's okay, Monfort should be getting ready to build another bar at Coors Field, which will solve the problems.

Even as a Yankees fan, I thought the 1998 WS was pretty boring and more the capstone at the end of an absolutely dominant season than an exciting series in its own right.

I think the 2005 World Series between the Chicago White Sox and Houston Astros was pretty dull that I would fall asleep during games, although that sleep could be because I was in the hospital and had an IV with some drugs in me. Yeah, I was in the hospital finding out I had MS when the White Sox won the World Series.
I would claim this year to be pretty dull, but I protested the whole way the Royals got in with Game 6 of the ALCS so I didn't watch any of the games and I cannot count World Series that I didn't even watch as being unexciting.

Yeah, I was in the hospital finding out I had MS when the White Sox won the World Series. The 2005 World Series was memorable for me for two reasons: 1. It ended an 88-year championship drought for the White Sox one year after an 86-year championship drought for the Red Sox was brought to a halt. 2. Game 3 of the Series was the only game I can ever recall in which I went to bed while the game was still being played and woke up in the middle of the night with the game still going on. I think I fell asleep around 10:30 p.m. and woke up just shy of 2 a.m. to use the restroom and the game was still being played.

2013 World Series. Cardinals and Red Sox are likely my two most hated baseball teams, so to see them in the Fall Classic was just the worst possibly scenario.
2007 World Series I would also nomonate because the Rockies had won 21 of their last 22 games going into the World Series after being .500 in August. It was a true comeback Cinderella like story. The World Series was set to be an amazing series... Then Boston sweeps the Rockies. It's like if Daniel Bryan won the Royal Rumble and then lost in 15 seconds to Triple H at mania.
