For recognition of the 50th Super Bowl, the NFL gave golden footballs to high schools where a player played in a big game. Any of you have one in your school; whether you currently go or are an alum? Did they make a big deal of it?

Nah. They did give one to the Atlanta Police HQ for making sure that Ray Lewis didn't go to jail though.

Not my school but in my area: Crivitz got one because one of their alum, Pete Banaszak, scored two TDs for Oakland when they won Super Bowl XI.

Today, they're having a ceremony at halftime of a basketball game to award Bishop Noll and Mike McGill a golden ball. Mike played special teams for the Vikings in SB IV. (He helped claim a National title at Notre Dame in 1966.) Fun quirks about him: he had 3 INTs in his career, all against HOFers. One off of Johnny Unitas and two off of Fran Tarkenton. The 2nd off of Fran was his last-ever NFL play, as he was tackled and blew out his knee. His career started in Minnesota as a Viking, and ended there as a St. Louis Cardinal. He wasn't even aware he was drafted. He was told to call the Vikings owner asap. Mike had no money and had to call him collect. Signed a $10,000 bonus and a 3-year deal for a whopping $54,000.
Kinda cool. Did not know this.
