Here's a random pondering from me from watching too many SFDebris Star Trek reviews. Out of all the main focused ships (as in, the ones that was the main ship of a series, or the ones of the movies that were the primary focus of them, hence no Reliant, Excelsior, or the Vengeance from "Into Darkness"), which design from strictly a visual appeal (not who was inside or anything, this is purely looks of the ship here) did you like best? The choices are: The Original series Enterprise: The Refit/Enterprise-A: Enterprise-D: Enterprise-E: Defiant: Voyager: The canon original: Reboot Enterprise:

Refit enterprise!
Nothing in Star Trek touches the level of craft and money poured into that, to great effect.

Tough choice for me between the Refit Enterprise/Enterprise-A, the Enterprise-E, and the Defiant.

For the poll I chose the E, but I've always been a fan of the Excelsior class ships.

Enterprise-D, followed by Voyager and the JJverse Enterprise.

The Defiant? Surely you mean "The USS Ben Sisko's Muthaf***in Pimp Hand"

Something about Voyager's design I find really appealing.

You're right, but I think my problem with the look of the Defiant is it's so out of place with the rest of the Federation's ship. It was the right decision to go with that look but it's not "classic" Star Terk enough. i hope that makes sense.

And the way you decided on your reasoning is why it works for a show like Deep Space Nine, since it was already unconventional with the station.

I kinda like the NX class too. Enterprise was a terrible show, but I liked the industrial look of the ship, even if it was cribbed from the Akira class. Voyager is another nice ship, but everytime I see it, I get chills thinking about Janeway's awful voice. The Defiant is just a bad ass looking ship that perfectly reflects Sisko's take-no-shit attitude. I love the Galaxy class, the original Constitution is the classic. The Sovereign class looks clunky to me, and the Abramsprise is just an abortion. It's hideous.

The Sovereign class looks clunky to me, and the Abramsprise is just an abortion. It's hideous. Just curious, what makes you think that about the Reboot Enterprise? For me, thinking from the story side of things, it just looks like what the original Enterprise would look like if they had some 24th century technology that they could reverse engineer (which they did via Nero's ship). And yeah, Sovereign does look a bit clunky, but again from story I can understand why: Galaxy class Enterprise-D was made in a time when the Federation was mostly at peace. Sure they had the Cardassian skirmishes and the mystery of the Ferengi (remember, they didn't know the truth about them yet) but for the most part things were all right, hence you could have a ship that, while it could defend itself easily in most cases, was more made for comfort and family. By the time of the Sovereign class, things had changed dramatically with both The Borg and The Dominion, so elegance needed a backseat to functionality.

Refit Enterprise/Enterprise-A all the way. It's a thing of beauty, though I'll gladly take the Excelsior too given the opportunity. I used to like the Enterprise-D, but there's something just off about the proportions of the D where it looks very good from certain angles but very odd from others. The engineering hull has always come off as kind of squished to me or just, well, out of proportion with the saucer. On that note, I tend to defend the Abrams films pretty strongly, but the JJ Enterprise has the same problem I have with the Enterprise-D but on an even clumsier scale. It looks -gorgeous- from certain angles but if you look too hard, you see how strange some of the proportions of the ship actually are, especially if you compare it to the original Enterprise. I've never liked how far forward the navigational deflector juts, the neck of the saucer is mounted too far back, and I can't decide whether the nacelles are too bulbous or not. I feel like if you kept the saucer, saucer neck, and nacelles in place, and scooted everything else back a bit, it would look significantly better. As it is, it looks like someone glued an Enterprise model kit together from memory without looking at instructions.

So you're saying it would look better if the saucer was more along the lines of how it looked when in the rarely seen battle mode?

As I grew up with the refit Enterprise, my vote goes for that one.
The Defiant is probably the biggest departure from conventional Trek ships we've seen, and I do like the sleekness of the Enterprise-E. Turning the oval shape saucer section made a world of difference.
I don't have anything to say about Voyager or the NX Enterprise.
