Hasn't ECW been referred to in the same way before too? Could have sworn I've heard people say "...the ECW" or whatever.

We all call it the WWE which makes no sense either. That's due to lot of us growing during the WWF years.

I've never heard anybody either on TV or fans calling it "The" WCW.
It's always been "WCW" and "The WWF/E".

Under modern rules of grammar, yes. However, that phrase is so old it actually predates the modern rules and therefore gets a pass. Either way, I was referring to Russo and Ferrara, who were known as "The Powers That Be" at one point. Except darn near half the roster called them "The Powers To Be," which annoyed me to no end. I think they were going with what he hear in terms of modern grammar. We do say "to be" (i.e. "I want TO BE the sexiest person in the world."), but NO ONE says "that be" unless they're speaking in the style of the outdated phrase you mentioned. Two different grammatical constructions. The Powers That Be would be a noun phrase, while I want to be would be is an infinitive.

We all call it the WWE which makes no sense either. It's still the same principle though as WWF...you are basically saying "The Federation". With WWE you are saying "The Entertainment". It's still 2 adjectives and a noun. It sounds stupid but it grammatically makes more sense than THE World Championship Wrestling since in the context of the name "WCW" all 3 words are being used as adjectives

Weirdly I just watched Pillman's ECW debut earlier and in that very video Joey Styles says something along the lines of 'what are you doing in the ECW?' Pretty sure he regularly said it on commentary too. Such as 'The Dudley Boys are the most dominant Tag Team not just here in the ECW but all of Professional Wrestling!'

Truth be told when it comes to WWE, I have heard JBL say "THE World Wrestling Entertainment" before. It kind of annoyed me. Yes, saying "THE entertainment" is common, but mainly when people are talking about events and they say something like "They are providing the entertainment," but that is it.

They worked for "The" WCW ... not "A" WCW No, they worked for WCW. You wouldn't hear someone saying they worked for 'the' McDonalds for example.
