Now I don't think Jake ever pinned any blame on him and I'm pretty certain he had issues with drugs prior to this, but I seem to recall that this might have lead to a painkiller addiction that at the very least didn't help Jake in the least.
So how much damage did that guitar shot on the Snakepit do to Jake albeit inadvertently?

HTM's claimed the story about the guitar not being gimmicked is BS, but having watched the video, it looks like a really stiff guitar hit, so I'm inclined to believe Jake's side. I think given the stress of being married and how wild the 80s WWE locker room was, drugs may have been an inevitability for him, but the guitar spot probably hastened it.

Yeah, I'm almost certain Jake was already using drugs prior to HTM's El Kabong, but that shot probably worsened things for him quite a bit. And HTM can claim all he wants, that guitar certainly wasn't gimmicked. (A gimmick guitar does not bounce like a basketball of a dude's head.)

Supposedly, the stagehand never switched the gimmicked guitar from the real one, and Honky and Jake both assumed it had been done before the segment.

Jake was lucky Honky wasn't the "Double Bass Man"

That's a pretty brutal hit and the guitar doesn't explode like the gimmick ones

Honky should have realised it wasn't a gimmick guitar by the weight of the damn thing.

Guitar hit is at 2:35. I think this explains that recent Bray Wyatt promo.

I'm imclined to think it was really just that this hadn't been done in wrestling before so no one really thought about what they were doing. They figured "it's made of wood, it'll break apart" not realizing it's actually made of fiberglass almost an inch thick.

Jake was (is? I haven't been following) a drug addict because of psychological issues. He had a terrible upbringing and most people who have a terrible upbringing usually either become adamantly against things such as drugs or become complete addicts. Unfortunately Jake was the latter.

Jake Roberts, I gotta ask ya, is it true that your wife Cheryl made that for you and did that lead to any problems you may be having at home?

I'm not sure where you are getting your information, but acoustic guitars are not fiberglass, nor is it anywhere near an inch thick. They are wood (type varies by guitar; the guitar in question was mahogany) that is generally less than a quarter inch thick. However, they are braced on the inside with thicker wood, making them structurally sound. To gimmick a guitar, they buy cheap ones made of cheap wood and remove the bracing. The guitar in thid case is clearly not gimmicked, as you can actually see the bracing inside the guitar once Jake's head has punched a hole in the back. Make no mistake, these guitars are sturdy as hell and can take a beating.

On his shoot with Hannibal, HTM said they scored the back with a razor or knife, and when they were done, it was so fragile, they had to hide it to keep the boys from messing around with it and in turn messing up the angle.
Well, they may have done that, but not with the guitar in that clip.
