As the Narrative Turns ... Not a week ago, there were dozens upon dozens of "People don't want to cheer Roman, they want to hate him, HE MUST TURN HEEL" threads and posts. WWE puts him over as a face and it's "People have always wanted to cheer Roman, they just needed to book him as a badass." I personally think the latter is true (not necessarily for the "I want my indy guy" IWC smarks but for the folks who go to shows and like the product) but the vast majority of posts about Roman on this forum were of the opinion that he could never get over as a babyface. With all the "new Cena" talks, it's interesting to compare the 2 because this is so similar. You have the knee jerk "it's not working, turn him heel" crowd that are big and vocal, then you have the others saying "no, just book them a bit differently and we'll get on board". It's not exactly the same, but it's a big indication that the second group are right. And if that's true, well, WWE could have saved themselves from a decade of a split fanbase, they just refused to.

Maybe it's because he been over and people underestimate his overness because of certain crowds like the Rumble and Mania ones. Kinda like how this board loves to say Randy Orton isn't over as a babyface when we have visual and audio proof to dispute this flawed mindset. From all accounts, Roman get loud cheers consistently from the tv and live event crowds. It wasn't some overnight thing. And people now claim they wanted to cheer for Roman but WWE didn't give them a reason to? Bullshit. Most of the people here saying that hated the mere thought of Roman. Fans who liked Reigns cheered for Reigns regardless of their peers or WWE booking.

Beating up the Mcmahons into a pulp is better entertainment than "tater tots"

First, smarks only go for the big shows.
Secondly, everybody was just sick of this storyline and there was this exaustion factor. It was relief that guy finally won it. And that we can turn the page and go the next one.
Vince succeeded not in a "we're gonna have Roman beats everybody and you're gonna love him" but in a "we're gonna make you so sick of the storyline that you'll pray that it ends and that Roman win it". Maybe that was the plan all along.
