Cena must've thought Riley was a threat to his position in WWE, so he buried him at every chance he got. Obviously.

I can buy it, nobody is perfect after all, no matter how hard the WWE tries to portray them as such. Cena is a philandering fratboy millionaire like nearly everyone else who's ever main evented in the company from Bret to Orton and the Undertaker, so I'm not sure why people seem to think he's somehow above the little abuses of power that seem to happen when you're bulletproof in a company like the WWE. Cena is supposedly not the friendliest guy backstage, that's something people without an axe to grind have said, so I doubt it takes much to make the guy into an enemy if he doesn't know you all that well, but on the plus side, at least he doesn't soap people in the shower or run 'wrestlers court'.

Everyone has bad days. Everyone has someone that they don't like or get along with. If it was the same story and T-Rex was talking about anyone but Cena, no one would care. If this is the worst Cena has ever acted in the locker room or treated someone, that's really not exactly a horror story. This is how I feel this story could be completely true and Cena could still be a great guy. Maybe A-Ry just really pissed him off. I know there a few people at my job I can't stand though I just try and avoid them.

Sometimes the biggest statement of all comes when the outspoken asshole with nothing to lose doesn't say anything. I'm not a big Cena fan, and I'm not saying the story isn't true, it's just with the evidence at hand we know 3 things: 1) Tyler has every reason to lie. 2) Riley's a bit of an asshole. 3) Punk (who I AM a fan of) is the KING of all assholes and never really said a bad word about Cena. With what we have, I'd wager it's bull as well. But the vast majority of the time, when the outspoken asshole says nothing, it just means he doesn't benefit from saying anything. Being an outspoken asshole doesn't make someone altruistic. This is a Reddit AMA so he's not making any money, not directly at least. Saying things like this completely and utterly torpedos whatever slim chance he might have still had at going back to the company. He's probably not happy about how his career went, but that's hardly giving him every reason to lie. The truth is, he has little reason to lie at all. Riley may have shown a bit of an asshole streak in the past few years, but when this was supposed to have happened, he was coming up big. Then, all momentum stopped dead in it's tracks faster than if he'd tried to make a pass at the boss's daughter (except in WWE that just makes you COO). We also have the rumors that Cena is a bit of a philanderer, and for a period of time, every single wrestler who began to get big on Raw ended up being used to put Cena over. If the best character witness we have is that an unrepentant asshole hasn't criticized you yet, then you need better witnesses. The leap here is outstanding, it assumes that Punk knows about the incident, that he cares about the incident, that he disapproves of the backstage politicking himself, that he'd be willing to put his career on the line for Alex Riley, and that he feels this sudden urge to speak out against it. We also have more than enough accounts to know what type of person reaches Cena's spot in the card. They're adept at politicking, they're self-serving, and they're willing to push others out of the way to get their spot (the story of Shawn Michaels literally cutting in line to see Vince comes to mind). So why exactly are we assuming that Cena isn't any of these things, that he's above all that because of his character on tv? Hogan wasn't, Austin wasn't, HHH wasn't, Angle wasn't, but Cena is? And if Cena isn't above it, why would we assume that a story of backstage dick-swinging against a wrestler lower on the card is inconceivable when that's the exact type of thing that's done in an environment like wrestling, where a guy is mocked for using painkillers (the story of Cena mocking Rollins) and where everyone is expected to "pay their dues" to the veterans?

Cena has access to a time machine and has heard Alex Riley's NXT commentary. He then hated him for reasons Alex couldn't understand.

Even if that sort of conjecture made sense ("He's only said one bad thing about Cena once, and that wasn't his fault, erego everything about him is cool and real and awesome"), I don't know if CM Punk would be the best character witness. Out of interest, what reason does Reks have to lie? I thought he was in the same position as Dykstra, someone who's effectively left the wrestling business post WWE and isn't looking for a payday from a 'we're not the WWE' company. He's not being paid for a Reddit AMA and giving his stories away for free lessens his chance of getting paid for a shoot.

"Good job kid. I'd almost given up on you."
Cena said that to Punk when he won the world title for the first time. It's not exactly a damning account of what a dick Cena is, but that is a pretty dickish thing to say.

Honestly, I've heard a lot of guys who have been released say Cena is a good guy with a good heart, but he's also a tool (like a frat brother).
As for Riley, didn't he get in a lot of trouble for sandbagging someone back when they were teasing him going for the US (IC?) title?

Just like some people are going to use Riley's recent erratic behavior as an excuse to justify his getting such treatment by the company all those years ago. Cena has access to a time machine and has heard Alex Riley's NXT commentary. He then hated him for reasons Alex couldn't understand. But if that were true, then it would mean he set the events in motion that caused Riley's commentary:

He has little more reason to lie about it than literally everyone else and that doesn't make any of the other arguments more logical.

I was merely asking a question as I remember people saying around the time of RIley's depush that he sandbagged someone in a match. Thus I asked a question.

Not you specifically, but the reason you "remember people saying that" is because pretty much every time someone makes an Alex Riley thread, someone usually ends up brings up the sandbagging or posting a gif of it and using it as a slight against him, or calling him something along the lines of a "sandbagging POS" (as if he does it every match or intentionally ).

There’s a saying that goes like this; You haven’t seen the quality of a ship’s captain unless you have been with him in a storm. Just because Cena is a hard worker doesn’t mean he’s a nice guy, but he’s sort of gotten that status being the top dog in the company. Maybe he’s a big dick if you get on his wrong side, but we just never see that side of him often because nobody on the roster is stupid enough to GET on his bad side. Maybe Riley was legit one of the first guys in a long while to call Cena out on his bullshit while he was the "top dog" of the company. One thing is for sure, they had grand plans for Riley, and someone stopped them. The guy was given the pop of a life-time when he turned on heel Mizz (when Mizz was at his finest too). I remember the crowd giving Rock-level preactions when RIley debuted with his new theme song, and then suddenly a couple matches later (one of them being a rather bad cage match where he DID botch a little, and it happened to be against Cena too), his momentum just stopped dead in its tracks. Good point. He went to the moon and came down to Earth pretty fast when involved with Cena. Cannot be a coincidence. Reminds me of Sandow in a way.

Not to say that this story is true, but we keep bringing up CM Punk as never talking bad about Cena, which is great but maybe it's because Punk was a top guy. Sure Cena apologized to Edge and Jericho, two guys who have been with the company longer and are just as high on the card as Cena is, but how does he treat the lower card guys? I'm not saying he treats them poorly but he wouldn't be the first guy to get along with the main event talent and crap all over the undercard guys. Something about his characters smug personality just hits me wrong and makes me think he could be a huge dick to some of the underneath guys, not to mention that some of the stories about things he's done in his personal life haven't been very moral or upstanding.
