Balor should beat the Undertaker - fantasy booking

Everyone knows how over Finn Balor is with the NXT crowd. It is not hard to believe that will easily translate to quick popularity on the main roster. I think he should cement himself as a main event player by ending the Undertaker's career at WM*

As we all know, the Royal Rumble is Orlando...aka NXT's backyard. What if around the beginning of the Rumble (before Ambrose/Ziggler/Owens/etc have entered) the Demon Kane comes out and cleans house, as he tends to do, of a bunch of lower carders? Empty ring, then Balor's music hits. He will get one of the bigger pops he can get outside of Philly/NY/Chicago, letting casuals know how big a deal he should be treated right away. He battles with, and eventually eliminates Kane, which WWE will pretend matters a lot.

Next month, Kane wants retribution at Fast Lane. Balor has had only a couple of matches on Raw, defeating Heath? and Swagger? leading up to his first real test with Kane. The PPV comes and, while Cleveland is denied the Demon Balor everyone hoped for (and WWE successfully trolls the IWC), Balor dominates Kane to the point of career threatening injury before the lights go out, and Taker appears in the ring.

Taker cuts a promo on Raw setting up the match at WrestleMania. Balor wins a few more matches decisively, without the need of a ton of promo. Hype videos, Undertaker's name, and the IWC's collective wishful thinking sells the match enough.

On the go home Raw Undertaker cuts another promo where he mentions what Balor did to his 'Demon Brother' several times. Promo is heavy on the use of the world demon, because why wouldn't it be. Taker is cut off by a quick (recorder) promo on the Titan Tron by Balor suggesting that he has no idea what a real demon really is. At the end, the screen starts to go dark and as lighting strikes, Balor's demon paining can be seen over his menacing face.


This would make me pay $60 dollars if it didn't cost only $9.99!

tbf it would look kinda ridiculous unless Balor's in ring style changed completely. Like the Undertaker is a foot taller than him and it's not like he's got the standard WWE short guy defence of being a crazy ass luchador.

I'm a big Finn fan but saying he'll get over quick with fans because of NXT is a fallacy. We should learned by now being NXT over and main roster over are 2 completely different things. Emma was over in NXT. She did the same gimmick with the only modifcation of Santino being her pal on the main roster and it bombed. Balor is going to need some retooling to stand out especially when it comes to Demon Finn. For every Kevin Owens, there is an Ascension.

You know, if WWE had actually stuck to their guns with Taker's heel turn, and kept booking him as a nasty, evil veteran who uses smoke and mirrors to try desperately to preserve his legacy as a badass...THAT's the Taker I could see losing to someone like Balor.

But WWE got cold feet with that sometime after Summerslam and went back to booking him as a mythological god among men, so there's no way now.

Then why bother do it? If Taker wins, a young guy and potential star jobs to an Attitude era holdover. If Balor wins, he beat a washed up old man who should've retired years ago. Nobody benefits.

But Taker isn't just some attitude era holdover. I mean it's not the same thing as someone beating Road Dogg or something. The man's got God-like status in the WWE and only one has beaten him at Mania.

I know people like Balor and all but him beating Taker at Mania, even post-streak Mania Taker...that's just not happening.

This depends entirely on the fallacy that Balor's demon stuff is a gimmick. It's not. If it were, he'd have something supernatural or different about him when he becomes the 'demon', rather than wrestling exactly the same way. This is like saying Sandow should beat the Undertaker because his name is Damien and that's Omen related.
