Wasn't there a rumor that Paul Heyman was interested in signing Vader but only for sole purpose of jobbing him out to Taz??? That was Warrior. Could've been Vader too, but if it was I haven't heard of it.

In one of the Apter magazines, a bunch of retired wrestlers reviewed active wrestlers, and Ole Anderson said that Taz - a highly technical wrestler - stood out in ECW circa 1998 as being someone who won matches by throwing suplexes instead of swinging chairs. Not that it means anything, but those Scouting Report type deals in the Apter mags were faked - none of the wrestlers actually wrote those, and deep into the Attitude era, neither was pretty much anything else they supposedly were quoted saying in those magazines. Japan is easy to do, schedule wise. Making mid 6 figures, and not having to travel 300+ days a year is not such a bad option. None of the backstage politics either. He can just wrestle and collect a pay check. No Hogan or kliq taking the spotlight away. TONS of backstage politics there, just as much as any promotion, worse than many.

I'm not sure how Vader wouldn't have fit in with the era of WCW in 1999. I mean, Vader worked Hogan, Flair, Savage, and Sting during his original run and they were all there in '99. Add in Bret, Nash and Hall, and he still fits in there, too.
I could have seen him entering like Bam-Bam Bigelow in late '98 jobbing to Goldberg before settling for stiff matches with Benoit for a few months and battling DDP, as well. ECW would have been cool, too, but too far fetched money wise.

How could they get away with literally putting words into other people's mouths and then capitalizing off their purported 'insider access' to interview those people? Were they paying off the major wrestling promotions for licenses to propagate fiction?

Brian Blair because of a quote that an Apter mag attributed to Blair!

In some ways he had a late career resurgence by going back to Japan. I think he did the right thing.

Vader in ECW 1999 would have been interesting for matches with Tanaka, Mike Awesome, Sabu, MURDERING Sandman, Dreamer... But I wonder how inspired he would have been to perform. He wasn't exactly knocking it out of the park in Japan upon his return there.
